MK3S+ Hot End on a MK2.5S. Which firmware?
I have a stock MK3S Plus hot end and I want to put it on my MK2.5S. Will I just use the MK3S+ firmware? Or will I need a modified firmware that understands the MK2.5 hardware configuration but ALSO the MK3S extruder?
For example: Bondtech makes a MK3S hot end upgrade for the MK2.5 but they then offer a modified version of the Prusa firmware in order for it to run. Should I just use that firmware?
RE:
OK, I will answer my own post, this community is dead, but understandable... MK2S is antique!
Basically, no, you cannot run MK3S+ firmware even though the MK2.5S+ has nearly everything needed on the extruder. This is because it only works on the old 13a mainboard and 12v system. The dang MK2 system is stuck with a crappy 12v heatbed.
I think I could run MK3S+ firmware if I do the following:
- Buy the newer, better, 24v v10a MK3 mainboard
- Buy a 24v PSU
- Run BOTH power supplies
- Hook the 12v PSU to the Heatbed terminals
- Hook the 24v PSU to the other mainboard terminals
- Remove endstop switches (no longer needed)
Now I'd have essentially a MK3S+ but with an inferior MK2S frame. The PSU and mainboard is not too bad a cost to gain these benefits:
- quieter machine
- faster print
- somewhat improved quality
- less fire risk! (stupidly terrible heatbed connectors on the old 12v mainboard - mine burnt out 3 times)

One quick point: the above list of bullets assumes that you've bought or built a MK3S+ extruder (add that as a bullet above)
