GETTING STARTED

Thank you for your interest in the Prusa Connect beta test! This forum serves as the main communication hub for beta testers and Prusa Research developers.

We’ve been hard at work for many months to get our print farm management software to the current stage. We’re getting close to the finish line, however, there are still things we need to finish and bugs we need to fix. Thank you for joining our beta test - we’re looking forward to your feedback, ideas and suggestions!

Please note that Prusa Connect is currently compatible only with the Original Prusa i3 MK3/S/+ 3D printers and requires a Raspberry Pi Zero W to work. We’re already working on support for regular Raspberry Pi and we’ll publish a guide shortly.

Quick Start Guide

Please check the Prusa Connect & PrusaLink releases thread to download the latest system builds.

Next, prepare your Raspberry Pi Zero W and follow our instructions in these two PDF files. They will take you through the entire process from start to finish. Setting up your Prusa Link will take around 20-30 minutes.

Guide 1: PrusaLink and Prusa Connect setup and configuration

Guide 2: Sending files from PrusaSlicer to PrusaLink

We have also prepared a short guide on how to print a Gcode using PrusaLink only (local solution, useful when you have, e.g., one or two 3D printers.)

Guide 3: Printing a G-Code via PrusaLink

We will soon publish these guides in a password-protected section on our knowledge base.

We recommend avoiding using Prusa Connect / PrusaLink in live production environments as the system is still in a beta stage and some bugs are still present.

Please use the Bugs & Errors forum to report bugs you’ll encounter. It’s a good practice to use the Search function to check whether the issue has already been reported or not.

We hope you’ll find working with Prusa Connect intuitive and useful. We still have some road ahead of us, but we’re excited to share our current progress with you. Thank you for your interest to help us make Prusa Connect better!

RE: GETTING STARTED

Any news regards regular Raspberry Pi support? (I have 3 B+)

Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W are next to impossible to get now for less than £80, so i would like to try out PrusaLink/Connect in advance of spending a fortune on one!

I have used RepetierHost to drive my prints and have done on my previous 3D printer for the last 5 years without any issues, but would like to save a little energy and i quite like to idea of being able to remote control the print. (Future support for visualization [ie Camera] would be nice too, I have previously used OctoPrint with that feature)

RE: GETTING STARTED

Have you tried using RPI Locator?

https://rpilocator.com/

You can select vendors by country if you like.

I have a batch set up that does a screen scrape of this every few minutes and texts me when certain models are in stock with a certain Stateside vendor.  I've picked up a couple of them for list price plus shipping that way.

RE: GETTING STARTED

Hi JSW,

Thanks for the link. It really does look like there is no stock anywhere for RPi Zero 2W 🙁

RE: GETTING STARTED

The Zero 2 W seems to be the most difficult to get, at least here in the States at list price.  I picked up one of them shortly after they were introduced, just to play around with.  IIRC one US vendor had them for a few minutes a few days ago.

If you really need one (a Pi of any flavor) they are available on Amazon and Ebay at several times list price.  Profiteers have crawled out of the sewers and seized upon the market.

I do not consider myself to be a hoarder, but I always try to keep a few Pi Zero boards and one Pi 4 (4g or larger) on hand in case I need them for projects.

For smaller projects, I've migrated from the Pi Zero over to the various Adafruit Feather (Arduino type) boards.  The Adafruit Feather RPI 2040 board goes for US $12 and change and is in good supply.  For simple big-bang type device control, where you do not need the full OS or network connectivity, they work just fine and can be programmed in c/c++ and Python.

RE: GETTING STARTED

Will we be able to add MINIs to PrusaConnect soon?

I have a farm of 20 MINIs and have been patiently waiting for the print farm features advertised on the MINI's sale page for over a year now. I'm VERY excited it's here (even if it's only in beta), and am really looking to use this to manage our farm as opposed to the current method of USB sticks!

RE: GETTING STARTED

Hi, the Mini beta firmware has a (rather slow) file upload support, so at least you can connect your minis to the ethernet. Or WiFi. Connect support should be arriving next. It is getting implemented in steps, first viewing, then sending files and commands. I'd like to say by the end of the year but you know estimates. It's best to not ask for them. Sorry about it not being done yet

RE: GETTING STARTED

Can this be opened up run over USB?

The question of "which pi can I find?" is a lot easier to deal with if you simply add another option besides direct GPIO control.

RE: GETTING STARTED

Noticed it’s been a year since the last update on PrusaConnect for the MINI.  Did it ever get completed (maybe I missed the announcement).

RE: GETTING STARTED

Nope, it's cursed apparently. Got no more info on that, we cannot just put the MK4 thing in because the mini has half of the flash and maybe some other handicap I don't know about. Sorry
