Advice Appreciated on Misprint

I tried to print a flower stalk with thin leaves with prusament petg.  Would anyone be so kind as to point me in the right direction on how to fix something like this.  I don’t know whether to increase retraction, increase temps, lower temps, print slower, faster, or what.  Extruded temp was 250.  Temp was 90.  I am new to 3D printing and want to improve.  The stick part was kind of rough, too.  Thanks in advance for anyone taking the time to help an old man learn a new trick.  Cheers from Darby, MT.

I would probably print at 45 degrees with painted on supports  .

A little support at the bottom to stop the stalk falling over. And patches of support at various heights. 45 degree prints need negligible support. So the supports break away easily with negligible surface disruption

Hi Joan, I used supports and slowed down printing times just to see what would happen.  It printed very nicely.  Will print another one tomorrow without slowing times just to see the difference.  Do you think slowing the printing time caused texturing?  Thank you for the help.  I don’t know if you are a mother, but if you are have a happy Mother’s Day.  If you are not, have a great day anyway! 😊

I am a mother with a 38 year old son and a 36 year old daughter.  I am in the UK, so we celebrate on a different day.

did you print the stalk flat or at 45 degrees?

regards Joan

I printed it standing up with automatic supports generated.  I did not know how to stabilize the bottom of the stalk when I tipped it at 45 deg. and tried using painted supports.  I was not able to get the stalk aligned correctly and was not sure how to paint supports on the leaves so I left it to the slicer.  I will try painted supports on the next stalk and leave the print times alone to see what will happen and let you know.

My mother is 101 so everyday is mother’s day as far as I’m concerned. 😊  Cheers!

I would be glad to.  Would you also like the roses and other files that go with it?  I have not had time to print those yet.  Irrigation season has arrived in Montana and I spent all day laying out probably 1/3 of a mile of 3” pipe and sprinklers.  Also learning arduino with Paul McWhorter on youtube.  He is an amazing teacher.  I think his website is called toptechboy.com.  I learned what little I know about fusion 360 from his online tutorials.  He is updating that in June, I believe.  Please share any insights you get from the stl.  Cheers!

Hi Joan, here is the link to the entire project, 7 files in all, I believe.  Link to flowers and vase.  Cheers!
