Y-axis bearing replacement

So, tech support has been slow and not very helpful. I did get sent new bearings for the Y-axis, but was basically just told, “It’s easy, just take it apart and replace the bearings.”  Nothing about tools required or any other information.

I followed the guide for replacing the heat plate but now I am stuck trying  to figure out how to remove the nuts holding the U-bolts. What size are the nuts? M5? Also once I get the front plate off, anything special about the removing the bearings?  When I put the plate back on, what about the belt tensioner?

Best Answer by Turro75:

remove the heatbed,

remove Y belt tensioner

disconnect display cable

remove front Y plate

take off the Y carriage

the U bolt are M3 5.5mm nuts

Place the new bearing oriented in a way that balls are not horizontal or vertical, they must be 45deg to ensure the best sliding. I use a pencil to draw a line that help me be sure it is not rotated

reassemble front plate ,tensioner and display

U bolts must be tightened equally on both sides (spanner key 5.5), be careful it must be tight to avoid the bearing rotating and moving along the rod, anyway too much pressure leads in a bad noise, move the ycarriage to ensure the movement is free of noise and smooth. You must do several trials.
