Bed Leveling Issue at Edge of X-Axis

Prusa Community,

I've had a Mini for about a month and it printed well out of the box and I've had a great experience with it. However, from the get-go I got poor adhesion and issues at the far left edge of the Mini (facing the LCD, or X=0). I worked around it by just avoiding the first 30-40mm of the bed,  but I now need the full extent of the bed and I think at this point it's a hardware issue. A bed leveling command will produce the following result:

------0------1------2------3
0 +1.285 -0.010 -0.041 -0.091
1 +2.785 +0.085 +0.152 +0.205
2 +1.492 +0.200 +0.263 +0.378
3 +2.992 +0.118 +0.327 +0.512

If I print using that bed leveling result, the far edge will be printing in air, and ruin the print.

I've measured the variance from the right edge to the left edge using calipers and a 3-2-1 block and it's less than 1mm. The huge variance to me seems like a hardware error. With the x-axis at around 30, if I tap or flex the wire bundle the light will flicker on the MINDA probe. So I'm wondering if I have the same problem as described here:

https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/hardware-firmware-and-software-help/minda-bed-leveling-issues-after-two-weeks-of-printing/

Can anyone suggest any tests to confirm this, have I already done so? Can anything be done?

Thanks,

Yes, certainly wiring issue with MINDA probe. I guess you might be able to rewire the probe, but I think the best thing is to contact support via chat, explain the problem and try to get a replacement MINDA.

If you have R1 Mini, I would suggest applying the cabling mods if possible.

@bobcousins

Is the R1 defined by using the zip-tie to hold the wire bundle? If so, mine is the newer version with a printed wire management loop. I'm looking at this guide:

https://manual.prusa3d.com/Guide/How+to+change+a+M.I.N.D.A.+sensor+-+MINI/1514

I'll reach out to support regarding the sensor.

Thanks!

Yup, R1 uses zip tie there, R2 has a printed loop. But I think the zip ties at the extruder may also cause an issue. I haven't had the issue myself, so have not had a chance to examine where the fault is.

In general, I didn't like the design, so I've made some other mods to reduce strain on the loom, the loom now routes over the top of the extruder motor.

An update for any folks that come across this post in the future. I used the online chat feature on Monday to speak with Prusa and they almost immediately suspected the issue with the probe as well. I was able to discover that the probe would "blink out" with a slight tap towards the rear of the cable, surprising to me that it was not in the curve near the extruder. I may actually attempt to find the break in the wire by removing the insulation.

Prusa sent me a new probe which I got today. I installed it and the bed leveling issues are resolved. I can now use the full width of the print bed which is exciting. Sadly I have to re-calibrate the Live-Z, but a small price to pay.

I was floored by the speed and ease of the replacement parts. Kudos to them.
