Overture PETG Experiences?

I tried some new Overture PETG on my Mini and had awful results, underextrusion, terrible bridging, and it clogged the hot end and left dust in the extruder. I had dried it beforehand. Anyone have similar or different experiences with this or other filaments? A friend has used Overture before but the new spool did not look like what he had. The surface of the filament was rough, not shiny.

I returned it and sprung for more Prusament. I wasted many hours trying to get the Overture dialed in and the Prusament I have works the first time.

Regards,

Mark

RE: Overture PETG Experiences?

Can't tell you what went wrong with your spool but Overture has become my go to brand for PETG and I haven't had any issues with it so far. It's certainly not unheard of that somehow people received the wrong material, and I have had my share of filament spools that didn't behave as they usually do, but so far I've been lucky with Overture.

RE: Overture PETG Experiences?

Have used Overture PETG (black, orange and transparent) on my MK3. Works well for me.

Parameters were identical to generic PETG with a higher 5 to 10C build surface temperature for the first layer on the textured sheet. It does tend to string, as many PETG tend to do however.

Perhaps you were unlucky with a bad spool?

That is a possibility. It did not look like what my friend got in the past. That said, the Mini is much less forgiving than a MK3.

RE:

Do you have an unmodified Mini? Your mention of under extrusion and dust in the extruder made me wonder about the idler tension which I found to be super sensitive on the original extruder.

Stock Mini with Super Pinda. I've got the extruder tension dialed in for Prusament at least.

It seems to work fine with Prusament for everyone as far as I can tell but it seems that for other filaments the extruder is a lot more finicky. Why, don't know. The only upgrade I truly recommend is the Bondtech dual drive extruder (or its clones; I have the Trianglelab clone). Since installing it I haven't seen any of these issues on my Minis.

I've used Overture PETg on the MK3s off and on with no issues.

Generic PETg profile in PS and/or Cura.

RE: Overture PETG Experiences?

I've used Overture with both my Mk3 and my Mini and I've always had success with it.  Having said that as it ages it does get stringy, so I try to print models that won't result in a lot of stringing, vase mode things and boxes and the like.

I did have a problem with my Mini AFTER using PETG, when shortly after switching to PLA I started getting clogging and after many failed attempts to change the hot end PTFE (pilot error, I didn't realize I hadn't gotten the heat break properly clean) I put in the Bond Tech heatbreak and things have been fine since.  My best guess is running at PETG heat caused the PTFE to shrink but that's just a guess.  YMMV.

Cheers
