PETG Matte & Weak layers
I have 2 MK4's beside each other:
- assembled as kits, bought a month apart (parts are the same)
- same software versions
- Same gcode file
- Same filament (2 spools, swapped them & same results)
When I print in PETG one is beautiful & glossy & strong...
the other is weak, matte & awful... (I fixed the belt tension on the y axis to remove the artefacts)
The "bad" printer prints eSUN filament perfectly fine with great results, but struggles with the Prusa PETG.
I've upped the temp from 240 to 250 on the "bad" printer - but no real difference...
I'm reducing the print fan speed & see how that goes.
On the "bad" one it looks nicer & glossy in the corners where its a little slower... so "printing speed is the issue" - sure, but why is it an issue on only ONE of them???
They're the "same" printers!?!?!
RE: PETG Matte & Weak layers
ok - so looks like its temp related...
Here's the same print:
- bottom layers 240 deg (default, nice & shiny on the other printer): really matte & distinct layer lines
- Next layers 250 deg: much smaller layer lines, but still not shiny
- Top layers 255 deg: perfect, nice & shiny & barely layer lines
So why does ONE of my printers need to be set at +15deg nozzle compared to the other printer to print the same filament?!?!
RE: PETG Matte & Weak layers
Could be a dodgy temperature sensor, over reading by 15 degrees. Easy way to check, swap the hot ends.
RE: PETG Matte & Weak layers
Maybe monitor (and film) on both printers what happens in the 'sensor info menu' of the printer during printing? Part cooling fans running same speed on both printers?
RE: PETG Matte & Weak layers
@Rgb - thanks, looked at all of that & all readings & info are identical. Temps, fans... everything
Reached out to Prusa & they're sending another sensor, so will try that, then swap hotends... see how we go.
Until then i'm upping the temps to get it where I want
