READ everything, loads of publicity, but no actual info/instructions , where do i upload too, page?|types of design/model expectted

It's a ratings or reward system that rewards participation in PrusaPrinters.org.  This is just the forum.  After you create your profile you can upload PRINTS (3d models created by you) or MAKES (things you've downloaded from PrusaPrinters.org and printed).  Different badges for different types of participation.

RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!

I mostly print functional parts & tools. And except (original) printer parts, I have never printed anything from Prusaprinters, Thingiverse, etc. Of course, when I need something new, I always first check if something similar or even better, than I have in mind, already exists -as we use to say, "why reinvent the wheel". Yes, I have downloaded few objects of interest, but never printed them.

Not that I think of myself for being exceptional creative or innovative person, but... Most of the stuff there is just not really useful and/or functional (as it could be). Ok, I will say it loud: most of it is trash (posted by overexcited newbies, I guess).

Couple a weeks ago, I was looking for some drill-bits organizer, case, holder.. whatever you call it. Should be a piece of cake to find such thing in many variations, I assumed. So I went to Prusaprinters and searched for anything "drill bit", which resulted with only few "basic" attempts. Ok, there's more on Thingiverse .. more quantity than quality, that is.
In short, I ended up by designing my own drill bits case.

To summarize: I was expecting for Prusaprinters to be more selective in regard of quality & innovation. I was hoping, that there's some "jury" to approve, if objects meets certain (at least basic) criteria. But as that's not the case, there might be some really great ideas lost in a bunch of trash.
And now we got "rewarding" approach, based on number of downloads and likes. Number of downloads means nothing -as said above: I downloaded  some of it, just to find out it's not what I was expecting. And finally, downloads seems to be quite easy to "manipulate" and so we can expect even more trash in the future.

What would have been better idea in my opinion, is "monthly print reward". For example, the best three objects/projects (picked by Prusa staff or person) would be rewarded accordingly. And such print would also get "Prusa recommended" (or similar) signature in Prusaprinters -which would mean "good idea/solution".

Just sharing my thoughts...

Hi, till retirement was a cad/cam lecturer, many of my thingiverse (things) are from design /make, exercises, projects/assessments many are from complex assemblies  to simple keyfobs of interest, but i have printed everyone to test, some need more mods, and i hope most have some use, (540  loaded thingiverse at last check) all free to use either for original purpose, or interest, just a hobby now, but great during lockdowns??

Yeah over 500 models would be a PITA to transfer.  Sounds like a full-time job so no one blames you for not wanting the task.  Maybe upload just a couple?  It's work to print the model and do a write-up on it.  And that's all after you've done the work of designing and refining the model.  And in the end you don't get much back other than a compliment every now and then.

The new badge system will help establish your reputation though, and that will get more eyeballs on your work, which will further improve your reputation.  Unfortunately there's no design competency test that will immediately establish you as a top designer.  You just have to participate in the process and the cream will rise to the top.  I suggest uploading a few select models with good pictures and instructions.  You'll get much farther with quality over quantity.

PrusaPrinters chooses a few of their favorites and prints them during PrusaLive every couple weeks.  They also choose "Featured Prints" to highlight certain models they like.

It's a hobby for us all.  If you think your designs would be useful to someone, and you're willing to share them without compensation, you've come to the right place.  I don't doubt there are sites that tell you your model has been downloaded 7k times, and maybe that's even true.  PP doesn't fluff your stats though.  If anything, they severely undercount downloads.  I've downloaded models MANY times and the download count didn't budge.  I've had people post Makes of the model but the count still says zero!!  It's a glitch for sure.  But as much as I like to see massive download numbers, I like the feedback and the Makes so much more.  The new badge system is encouraging much more participation on that level and I think it's great.  Models are getting quickly buried by new models being ported in from other platforms, but PP is developing the tools to sort through them.  Merry Christmas.

The +10 Prusameters for Prints rule should be changed IMO.  All existing prints with 10 downloads and all new prints after they get 10 downloads (or whatever number Prusa decides) should receive 10 Prusameters.

This rewards all the legacy models and continues to promote new uploads.  It doesn't avoid the dozen different phone holder uploads but it doesn't reward them either.

Big mistake, unless your only goal is quantity over quality. Now there is NO incentive to upload quality models because they will be LOST  in all the noise.  Last night I went into Prints to see what was new in the Arts category as there are some very good artists there and I enjoy their work. Not surprisingly, I had to scroll through about 300 or more of what could best be described as <>. While not crossing the line to offensive, a lot were in bad taste. Some were posted more than once under different titles. Whatever it takes to get self gratification and worthless badges. I agree with recognizing(rewarding) individuals for significant contributions, but not for <> who flood the Prints, or forums with <>.

I looked every but could not find a button to opt out and delete my Prusameters and badges. Does anyone know where. or how to do so.

Kenn.

@Kenn,

Maybe a solution could be to sort by contributor or most likes? This way the those rise to the top of the list....

RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!

@kennd; as I've seen the incoming prints there's definitely been plenty submitted where it's clear care was taken by the designer. There are, of course, the low effort models streaming in too. What that ratio is currently and compared to previously, I don't know, but I suspect it's probabaly on par.

What has obviously changed is the volume, and that has definitely done it's work in burying anything coming in.

@MysDawg, they do have the ability to sort your view by most likes, most downloaded, etcetera. You can even time bound it by 7, 30, or unlimited days. However, I think what's missing is a sort that looks at these aspects by prints submitted within the same time range. Because plenty of the most liked have been the most liked for ages.

This is basic social-media self reinforcement.

The user searching with one of the simple sort filters sees the most popular first, is more likely to select something in the first page or so, automatically the first few are preferentially reinforced even if there are much better samples 300 pages in that are new or were overlooked in the first few hours after posting.

The only real solution is much finer-grained filters so the searcher is presented with only the best few matches and can review all of them. The only way to do that is to solicit more specific detail from the originator and maybe to allow some sort of Wiki style description refinement by other users.

Cheerio,

@Aaron, that was what I was trying to say...a better way to filter the posts.

Sorry for a stupid question from a newbie (printed since 2018 but never downloaded a model nor printed a benchy ).

Difference between a "Print" and  "Make" is that a print is something you have designed and printed where a Make is someone else's model you have printed and posted, right? 😋

First to congrats for a good strategy and ideas.

On some prints I noticed they have Donate option. How to setup,  include it in the post?

It would be nice to get Prusameters as a donation, not just Paypall.

Makes get counted by calendar month right? I wonder how much an uptick we will see in makes at the start of the new year. 😉

I already uploaded 10 makes this month and I am waiting for the next to continue posting others.
