That, also, since Thingiverse seems to have issue upon issue, the easy 'import' functionality motivated me to come here and start my profile, even though my printer is 'just' an ender3.
Plenty of people might just not know prusaprinters is also for non-prusa printers.

Finding out the correct filter for this is probably a manual job and good luck with that.

@shane; i got your message, but still am not allowed to reply yet. i guess i'll just have to become more active on the forums 😉
I'll send the email.

I like this incentive program a LOT,

IMO it's ruined the site.  I don't post many designs but I have half a dozen that have been through a two year test and refine cycle that I was preparing for publication.  Two of these have print and build instructions that have also been through a couple of months testing and rewriting.

Now it doesn't seem worth posting them as they'll just sink under a morass of cats and enlarged Benchies.

Cheerio,

Fair point and I can see where you are coming from and you may be right, but  while these incentives do bring the potential for mass uploads of low quality models that might hide your work, they also bring people searching for things to download, and people trying to find their 10 things to print every month that may not have found your work otherwise. Double edge sword I guess but I like the increased activity and seeming uptick in viewership on my models in the last few days. Only time will tell how this levels out in the end, but I feel if things truly start leaning in a negative direction the team in charge is smart enough to restructure the incentives, points, and such.

Side note: I would love to see what you have been working on, I hope you release it and message me if you do.

I feel you, brother...

But I think the jury is still out. I suspect things will cool down after a while as the newness factor abates.

In a year from now we'll look back at this and I see two scenarios in my crystal ball:

* Adding gamification was a stroke of genius and increased the value of prusaprinters significantly by attracting designers to post their models here.

* Adding gamification initiated the drop into the abyss in which quantity reigns over quality, and prusaprinters has reached the low of thingiverse.

I hope it's going to be the former...

So far I'd give it a thumb's up.  I've noticed a lot of iffy new prints, but a lot of good one's too!

Best part is, there's been a huge bump in Makes.  A lot of them dropped right after the badges did so these probably aren't NEW makes, but ones they had but never submitted.  That's okay with me.  I appreciate pics of dusty parts too.  I hope the trend continues.

I'd like to see badges for having a featured print or other goals and achievements.  I feel like I deserve a badge for buying the kit and building it myself too!  What about buying over 100 rolls (over time) of filament?  It goes toward establishing your credibility or reputation.  If someone wants to buy their way into some badges, are you going to complain about the extra business?

The need to grind for badges is real though.  I think I'm pretty much capped out after I get the 20-day chip.  How do I apply to be on Staff?  You guys want to open an office on the central coast of California?

Prime example here of gaming the system https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/99060-fry   what a pointless, time wasting, disk space eating non model.

I wish the report function had a gaming the system option.

That same guy's only other uploaded print is a covid molecule.  Smells fishy.

I second all these statements! I'd rather see an old make than no make of my work and of others, and a featured print badge and some others would be very cool.

Also I just noticed they have updated it so when you look at others pages it now shows the explanation of the badge they are on, not what their next one would be   like it was yesterday, thank you!

As I've had time to think about these new features, I'm finding myself a bit disappointed in a way that disappoints me.

Namely, I'm a little bit jealous of those who can now load up their collection of 3D models, get the points, and collect their rewards. Meanwhile, I've contributed all original--some even useful--works to the site, but all before this new change. So I won't stand to collect anything apart from any new models I come up with (1 more as of today).

I'm disappointed with myself because I really never set out with the intention of getting anything for the work I've done. It was just fun sharing, but now I find myself dealing with a bit of envy with all of this.

If I'm being honest with myself there's definitely part of me that would like to be rewarded for my work despite my desire to be entirely altruistic.

I get what you are saying, I am in the same boat, sort of, having uploaded a lot of my library of  models when I first came here so I don't get rewards points for those. I've never set up any sort of payment system for my work just doing it for the fun of it, Heck I was even giving out reward$ for people printing my work just to  hopefully see more makes... now the site does that for me (which is cool). The good thing is you're already lvl 15 due to your hard work in the past, may not be points towards rewards but it is respect, may even help get you on the short list for "approved designer"  however that works. Plus an advantage over others just starting out is you'll accrue more downloads and likes from those quality models and that does earn us points.

Side note: I checked out your page you do indeed make great stuff, keep it up!

What's the difference between Prints and Makes?   And where does one upload a Make when one finds out?

A print is a model you designed and uploaded. A make is when you printed someone else's model and posted a picture of your, well,  make as a comment to that model.

I'm surprised we haven't seen this on Prusa Live yet.  Such a huge change.

RE:

I am still undecided if this reward system is a change towards the better or worse. My impression so far is that prusaprinters got visibly busier. That's positive, however I also have the feeling some are making an entry for almost every single piece they designed even if they all belong to one large projects, to inflate their statistics. This is really flooding the "newest" lists, making that much less interesting due to lack of diversity of projects. At least few seem to post obviously nonsensical non-prints (like the "fry" example above, which is just a single box shape).

Prusaprinters might need to enhance the search function or fine tune the reward system to counterbalance things.

One additional question. Is the 10 prints limit for rewards an absolute number or a monthly one?

I admit that I too was positively impressed by the novelties in the awards recently introduced, but I wonder, given the huge amount of new objects published, if by chance the quantity does not compromise the quality. In any case, an excellent initiative that will surely make the site shine

I'm hoping it's monthly, but it's not stated like it is for Makes.  So it could very likely be the max.  Either way you'll still get rewards for 30 downloads and so on.

Cheerio,

Good models still float to the top eventually.  Initially it will be buried under the mountain of dice holders and lego shapes, but if it's a good model it will catch hold.  I have many models that started out VERY slow but gained steam long after they fell off the new prints page.

RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!

I printed your fan rake, absolutely deservedly among your top downloaded models 😉

But you are right, good models are slowly finding their way up. The funny thing I saw in my account was that I made a smaller upload and as a consequence my previous Catan set got more new downloads than my new upload.

Nonetheless I see a visible trend that some users are uploading every miniscule variant as separate print. That is not a positive development but as the reward for new prints is limited to 10 prints this wave of trivial models will probably not persist and if people just go crazy afterwards with uploading makes, that is no issue whatseover, rather something positive.

You're right, limiting the points to 10 prints solves a lot of problems.

Anyone that's butt-hurt about not getting points for previous uploads can shortcut the system by saving a draft of their old models then re-publishing them.  That's not really a cheat because you're limited to 10 prints, so you can have 100 points for the last 10 or the next 10.
