first layer silence

noob question — not a problem, but i’m curious:

more than not it seems like my first layers are printing very silently, then the remaining layers have the typical printer sounds as one might expect.

every now and again a layer prints silently — and it makes me think the printer has stopped, but it hasn’t.

are there settings in slic3r that cause the first layers to make hardly any noise at all?

thank you!

RE: first layer silence

The first layer speed is a lot lower than the speed for the rest of the model. So less "incentive" for the printer to be noisy.

Also, the "last" perimeter trace (in each layer) is, apparently by default, slower, and therefore quieter than the others, i.e., if you have specified 4 perimeters, the 4th one will be slower. I'm not sure why PS does this and I don't know whether other slicers do it also. There's probably a slicer setting that allows this to be changed, but I have never explored it.
