Designers and engineers: Here are the precise dimensions of screw holes and nut pockets
These are the exact M3 screw and nut dimensions from Prusa engineers. You can use these when you model your parts that need to be screwed together.
- through hole is 3.286 mm (the screw and threads pass through)
- hole with self-cutting threads is 2.791 mm
- square nut pocket is 5.600 mm x 2.150 mm
- hex nut pocket is 5.456 mm across the flats
All dimensions were measured Prusa-designed parts, exact to a thousandth of millimeter. I figure that Prusa engineers are smarter than me, so why should I guess?
(I posted these elsewhere 7 months ago, and I have come back many times to get these specs for my designs. I hope they are valuable to designers of precision parts. 🙂 )
