One more test run

My apologies if this is over spamming. Here's the latest test print, the frog from the included usb in my Mini+. Nozzle temp 210, heat bed 60. Still trying to see if I have Z axis set right. Seems like nozzle might still be a bit high but not sure as I am still brand new to this.

I also noted the back legs look rough and not sure why. FWIW, pic taken at 2x magnification. As always, thanks in advance for any and all help!

I would rate that print as good enough for the first month.

Every user builds their printer slightly differently and pre-built models are shaken up in transit so during the first few weeks of use the printer will run-in and settle its parts together; then you will have to go over the basic maintenance checks, lubricate and recalibrate. Even if you got everything dialled in perfectly today, it would all need re-doing.

Better to settle, temporarily, for a basic working printer and get some useful printing done, make your early mistakes, establish a routine and generally get used to the process. Then when you do your one month service you can take extra care knowing the new settings on your now stable printer are likely to last for several months.

Cheerio

Hallo, because the print looks good above i would first check whether the Z axis is stuck.Loosen the two screws with which the Z axis is attached to the spindle. Then do the first layer calibration again. Now try the Frog again. He should be way better by now if it's that problem.

Then tighten the screws again very slightly.

Thanks again for the quick answers, I really appreciate the help and advice!

This makes perfect sense. I will likely still start relatively small (printing replacement parts and other small prints) but this gives me something to go on.

Also great advice. I will take a look at that as well, especially if I notice other issues. I will say that the first layer on the second Prusa Logo I printed looked really good (and I printed that after the frog). I know that print is designed to be forgiving but even so the first layer was solid (at least in my inexpert opinion). I may have to eventually adjust the pinda though since I'm nearly maxed out on the Z adjustment to get to where I'm at now. Hoping to be able to just keep as is for now though of course. 🙂

A stuck z-axis does not only affect the first layer. If the axle is stuck in the lower area and it runs freely by loosening the screws, the setting of the first shift also changes! Was just the case in the German part of the forum with a user.

Good to know! I really do appreciate all the help. I'm rapidly trying to learn as much as I can about the printer and 3d printing in general while simultaneously not overwhelming myself! I will definitely be checking the axis!

I discovered that the z axis trapezoidal nut screws need to be far looser than you would expect. They need to be *just* snug, barely enough to keep it from rattling. When I built my Mini, I way over tightened those; first it caused the self-test to fail, then caused some poor print quality.

RE: One more test run

Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a check and try to make sure. Managed to show restraint and not mess with the printer or print anything last night lol. Still want to run some test prints though and slowly build up to larger pieces anyway. For what I want to do, so far, the printer seems to be within tolerable limits so to speak, but I also recognize that slight issues will become bigger issues on larger prints in all likelihood. The Benchy is up next for me and then probably some time playing around with Prusaslicer to get a feel for it. The good: This is all new to me and fun to learn. The bad: This is all new to me! lol
