Prusa XL help: Repeating horizontal lines on my sculptures

Hi everyone! I’m an artist and I’m currently printing a series of sculptures. I’m using a Prusa XL, and I’m getting these repeating horizontal bulging lines all over the surface. You can see everything in the photos.

Please advise on what this could be and which parameter I should check. Thanks in advance for your help. Good luck to everyone!

Which seam setting are you using?

Hi! Thanks for the reply! I’ll only be able to get back to you on Monday evening. I need to check these settings at the print shop first. Should I maybe ask them about any other specific settings while I’m at it?

Cheerio,

I think we can figure this out 🙂

But we'd need a little more help from you, please.

Unfortunately, without additional details—such as the type of filament you're using, for example, or a 3MF file in ZIP format—we can't tell what settings you've used.

I took a look at the 3MF file.

You have enabled the “Scarf” function. In the sliced view in Prusa Slicer, under the “Actual Speed” menu item, you can see that the overlap areas match the areas shown in the images.

Additionally, you selected the “Random” seam option. This randomly distributes the start and end points of the perimeter across the entire object. I assume you didn’t want a visible seam?

If you want to print more parts:Turn off the Scarf function and test it on a smaller object to see if it prints to your satisfaction before printing larger parts.

A quick tip: With “Cubic” infill, the print takes only 16 hours instead of 24.

Thanks a lot for the tips! Changing the infill to Cubic is a huge time saver.

Before printing the larger parts, I'll definitely turn off the Scarf function and run a quick test print with Random seam. I'm really hoping for an improvement, as this is crucial for my art objects!

I'll post the photos of the results here very soon!

I'd like to add that you are absolutely right. My friends—they were the ones who set up the printer for me—said that with these settings they removed the seam that was very visible on one side of the model. They told me that this quality, like on the printed cucumber, was the only option. Now, with your advice, we will adjust the settings together and test them on a small model.
