Would love to brainstorm mods and cases to make the Prusa-Mini travel

it seems the Prusa-Mini could be made to travel quite well.

Maybe to the kids school? Maybe for that work factory visit to quickly print a jig? Maybe to grandma to be able to replace that knob on her stereo right there?

Who wants to brainstorm or share cases and travel-mods?

Philipp

P.S.: I could see 2 main paths to go down:

a) keeping the printer fully assembled, and sticking it into a larger case (interior > 13in x 13in x 16in= 330mm x 330mm x 400mm)). Maybe designed like a "flight-case" for stage equipment, where most lifts off and the printer can remain on the base to use.

b) somehow finding a clever way to fold at least one thing, so it could fit into a size that can go on planes as cabin luggage (exterior < 9in x 14 in x 22 in  = 230mm x 350mm x 550mm)

Traveling would mean having to redo calibration and could damage stuff

Please help me out by downloading a model it's free and easy but really helps me out https://www.printables.com/@Hello_474427/models

The first thing I thought of was a foldable 3d printer, like this design.

But that's not your question. so I started looking for existing solutions and came across this one.

That isn't accurate, I take my Mini out to my brothers place all the time. For now I just set it on the front seat until I come up with a solution similar to this thread.

There isn't much to go out of whack or adjust on the Mini. The bed level compensation basically takes care of it.

That being said the plastic fold-up table that I set the printers on at home is not even, so sometimes when I first set it down again it can rock on the foam pads until they adjust. I've been meaning to get a couple of concrete slabs or even just some thick plywood to even out my particular table a bit.

Hey TrisQ,

I work in events and am thinking the exact same thing, I need to transport my x3 Prusa Mini's and am thinking how best to go about it.

  • Custom made flight cases, with an internal foam padding are the standard in the AV (Audio/Visual) world where you need to protect the item being shipped. The can be quite costly, especially when it comes to customizations.
  • PeliCases (used by the Military too) are a close second for items that have less precious cargo, power, HDMI cables etc. These too can also have foam inserts, many people use them for Video & Camera gear with foam inserts.

I'm actually in the process of printing cases for my Azule Access3 Mini PC's that will live in a Peli 1510 Flight Case. Here are some pics of the project in process;
