need to think about it 🙂 if no one in Austria is haven some left for me, seems I need to go down this road anyhow.

Thanks

On the Troll Factory,

I have looked to find the Type 3 Silicone in the US.  No one ships it here and no one sells it.  Smooth-On is the best alternative.

@lichtjaeger

Hi, I just found this thread and I really would like to have some as well! I was fighting with the E3D ones and am hoping yours actually are working. Will try to PM you... well see how this works 🙂

 I am going to try out the mold that Jose created. I m going to see how it works out. I am using Permatex Supra Copper which is rated at 350C.

I made a few and they work ok.  They are a bit softer than the ones I bought from this thread.  I hope Troll Factory finds a way to sell to the US.

I have found a local supplier that sells high temp mold silicone rated at 400C.

I see in the technical documents that the mold silicone has higher hardness rating and lower elongation percentage over the gasket maker. So what you say is reasonable.

Unfortunately though they only sell it in 1kilo containers which would be too much for me 😛 I don't think I would use that much unless I find other projects that require molding.

I don't have TPU, so my first idea is to print mold for making proper feet, MK3S style.

You must be overseas from the US.  Anyone know of a product sold in the US (outside of SmoothOn)?

Got bored and had a quick google! I've no idea if this is suitable, the price or amount you'd have to buy, apparently it can withstand 600°F (which probably means $$$$$). It's worth a look for the website which is ©2001! http://www.eagerplastics.com/rtv325.htm . Also found https://www.reynoldsam.com/product/mold-max-60/ (up to 560°F/294°C) but they do seem to have a supply chain!

Yes I am in Greece so unfortunately my info is more useful for members in Europe.

In other news my sock failed 😆 It got stuck on the mold even though I soaked it in soap water. I let it cure for 20 hours more or less. Any tips?

I used Smooth-On Mold Max 60, the colour is a horrible brick red but I'm hoping some pigment I've ordered will let me make it black so it at least matches the rest of my mini when I make another batch of socks!

The black pigment I ordered didn't make any difference, and it says to not use more than 2% or it affects the hardness so I didn't risk go any higher to see what would happen. I might try doubling it to 4% in my next batch.

Does anyone have any tips for getting Smooth-On Mold Max 60 into the syringe? Trying to pull the plunger is really difficult, it's like the silicone has set when it hasn't. Maybe I'm about to answer my own question out aloud... should I be filling the syringe from the other end? This stuff is very messy, I'm not sure how this would go.

@robee

I'm not an expert (I've never used silicon!) but could you spoon the mix into a plastic bag and snip a corner off to make a very small hole, something like an icing bag? I apologise if this is an impractical idea but hope it helps!

I used  Permatex Copper Silicone and mixed in a drop or two of glycerin and I also had problems pulling the silicone into the syringe.  I ended up using my mixing stick to just shove it in the back of the syringe.  It made a bit of a mess as you say.  But after I pushed it into the mold, I just let it dry and then the mess peeled away quite easily.  Also, I still did the step where you hold your thumb over the tip of the syringe and pull the plunger back to try to pull any bubbles out in the same way that CNC Kitchen did for his.
