Prusa mini : what are the V6 compatible parts ?

Hello,

I broke my prusa mini heater block, and was wondering if I could replace it with a cheaper or upgraded alternative.

The shape look very similar with the normal V6 heater blocks, and I haven't found confirmation or denial for compatibility.

Prusa part :  https://shop.prusa3d.com/fr/mk3mk3s/175-hotend-heaterblock-e3d.html

Regarding the heat break, I thought that it was proprietary, but I would like to confirm.

Sincerely,

The Mini block certainly looks different https://shop.prusa3d.com/fr/mini/1171-hotend-heaterblock-mini.html

@bobcousins

Isn't the heater and temperature probe the same diameter ?
I found the V6 dimenssions, I will compare soon.
If the spacing is similar, I wonder how the little difference in shape could change the functionality.

It would be frustrating if it was 100% proprietary, considering how fragile it is, and how cheap it can be found in china.

I believe nozzle, cartridge and thermistor are compatible - at least when I ordered spare just in case, those were the same as for MK3S. You can screw e3d heatbreak and heatsink into MINI heater block, actually if you check few threads over https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/user-mods-octoprint-enclosures-nozzles/different-hotends/ one of the mods uses original MINI aluminum block with v6 hotend. You may just need to adjust MINDA and maybe put some offset in starter code to match printing area.

A "big" chinese seller told me that heater block was compatible. I will grab some and test out.
I also asked Prusa's support about it.Regarding the heatbreak; the prusa mini is much more different as the other on the marker are much wider in diameter.

Official answer from support, I will still try the V6 and repport results here.

The holes should be the same but as the heaterblock has different dimensions it could cause issues for the perfect preheating of the nozzle. We can not recommend that option. If you need a new heaterblock you would have to use the direct one for the MINI. Sorry about that.

I have never tried the V6 heat block but you have given me food for thought.

MINI does seem to have smaller heaterblock, v6 is taller and probably uses more material.

Hi Guys,

All our minis for the moment uses V6 original from e3d, everything works, heater cartridge and heater sensor fits like on mk3s.

and there are plenty of ways to upgrade it and very simple here is 1 of them:

https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/36551-mini-extruder-rear-with-8mm-pneumatic for the bowden

https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/31006   for the E.Carriage

Cheers
