Mini Bear Upgrade
I am quite a newb to the Mini+ and was wondering if someone who has done or know about the benefits of the bear upgrade can share their insights/experience with the original Mini+ vs upgrade. I have some questions and looking for some guidance here.
Is this upgrade a must have? Maybe I need a little push to fully convince myself that the bear upgrade is worthwhile. I figure that at least it's to make the hardware capable of quality prints whilst I continue to learn more about 3D printing and understand how to tweak settings to get me to a level of expertise to make quality prints.
Is there a BOM that someone can share with me? I am having trouble finding a BOM for the necessary hardware bits to complete the mod. I'd like to source all or most of the parts from one or a small handful of vendors to simplify the whole process.
What are the main differences between the different versions of the bear? I've come across "smokey", "haribo" and maybe there's just a regular "ultra" as peach3d coined it. I can't really tell the difference and not sure what additional benefits are of one version over the other.
Thanks!
RE: Mini Bear Upgrade
Just my opinion on this...
First, don't upgrade just because someone else did. You ask "is there any benefit?". But I will ask "why you think your Mini needs BEAR upgrade?" -you get the point.
Is this upgrade a must have? Maybe I need a little push to fully convince myself that the bear upgrade is worthwhile.
There might be three main reasons why someone would decide for Mini BEAR upgrade:
- because BEAR frame looks "cool" (so yes, why not),
- because he think BEAR upgrade will solve his troubles with Mini (it won't),
- because he plans to further heavy modify the printer (for his special needs).
I figure that at least it's to make the hardware capable of quality prints whilst I continue to learn
Mini, as it is, is capable to make quality prints.
I think, you should use Mini a while, gather experience and save money for an upgrade that you can actually justify. You can thank me later 😉 .

RE: Mini Bear Upgrade
If you have to ask these questions, the obvious answer is "no". No, not only don't you need the "upgrade", it's also a bad idea. As a newcomer to the Mini you're much better off getting to know the machine rather than thinking about modifications already. The Mini is a great machine. I have Minis and Mk3Ss, and my Minis are used as much or more than the Mk3Ss.
