RE: MK4 + Octoprint

That is a pretty clean setup.

I'm using this setup with a 3b+ (I think): https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3759782 Super clean, powered from the Mk3S PSU and a short USB cable from Amazon connects the Pi without dangling cables or mess. I'll consider a Zero 2W on my next one if necessary. The "2" wasn't available at the time.

Me to, I still have a Pi4 4g and a Pi3b+.  Id really love to have Zero 2W's so the footprint is minimal but they're just not attainable for a reasonable cost. 🙁

I'm glad I have two extra Pi 3's and 4's laying around. 😀

RE: MK4 + Octoprint

I am not an IT expert, installed my MK3S+ recently with Raspberry Pi 4 and a camera, using Octoprint, working perfectly and via VPN can easily follow the print remotely. Was close hitting the order button for the MK4, but now reading that it does not seem to work with Raspi 4 / Octoprint will not order one until this is solved.

Why would the Mini work with Raspi 4 / Octoprint, but the MK4 not as they have the same hardware architecture? What does as well not look promising is that the MK4 is not (yet?) listed on the Prusa Page with the Raspi / Octoprint support and instruction page.

Would be great to have an official statement of Prusa about this.

Thanks for your work on this, much appreciated.

Do you know if mqtt works already?

I’m getting my MK4 on Friday or Saturday. If you don’t see an update from me, remind me so I can test it out for you all if it hadn’t been done already!

Keep your eyes out for 2W constantly!  Ive been wanting to convert one of my mk3s+ so I can use the pi4 elsewhere.  They're almost never restocked.  I see zero w all the time but almost never 2W.

RE:

My MK4 has been working with my RP4 powered octoprint setup pretty well.  The only thing is gcode modifying plugins have to be turned off for now.  Other than that, everything else is satisfactory.  As long as your plugins aren't abandoned, I'm sure you can expect the gcode modifying plugins to be updated.

The octopi image works pretty much out of the box as long as you never turn on the wifi radio.

My prototyping setup is kinda messy because of how often I'm changing things around in the office, but heres my MK4 and MK3S+ both working hard for me 🙂

Good to hear. Can you explain this statement:

The octopi image works pretty much out of the box as long as you never turn on the wifi radio.

How do you connect to it without WiFi?

I meant the wifi radio on the printer, not the pi.

RE:

Thanks for all the testing and reporting to addohm, so sounds all should work when MK4 onboard WIFI is not activated with Raspberry PI 4 & Octoprint, I am sure the plugins and Octoprint will be updated to fully support MK4 soon.

Just ordered an assembled MK4 2 days ago, 6-7 weeks until shipment according to homepage.

RE: MK4 + Octoprint

That's disappointing. I was planning to use octoprint and grab metrics from the onboard webserver. What does octoprint do if the WiFi is connected?

RE:

I'm not sure what your struggle is as you can get all the info from here or the prusaslicer MK4 profiles.

What exactly this means? Are you saying that usb-c serial port is disabled if you "turn on" wifi radio? That makes no sense (or makes little sense). Could you connect printer to pc using usb-c cable and start any terminal program (like putty) and see what's there (including when you turn on wifi) ?

RE:

If you have the MK4 WiFi connected to your access point, the USB-C will not work. You can connect to Octoprint, but after a few seconds the connection to Octoprint is broken. The same was with the network cable, network cable in the Printer and Octoprint does not connect.
So, Printer reset, no cables in it and WiFi not set up, then USB-C cable to the PI and octoprint works fine. (Wifi print does not have to be removed from the printer)

RE: MK4 + Octoprint

i did NOT disable the wifi on my MK4 and yet Octoprint still works perfect.  (on an Pi3) maybe this finding is only true for the Pi4

That's strange, why would the kind of Rasberry Pi would make a difference if it runs Octopi as well?

What do you mean by "I did NOT disable WIFI"? Did you set it up connecting to your Network or not?

RE: MK4 + Octoprint

people seem to say you have to disable wifi on the MK4 for Octoprint to work but i did not, my wifi is on and connected on my MK4 while my Pi3 with Octoprint is connected to the wifi of the pi and all is fine (except the screen of the MK4 doesn't change for the Serial Octopus logo screen so i'm unable to increase speed during a print sent/managed by octoprint)
