version 2.8 makes physical printers redundant? (Prusa Connect)

In the ever tiresome quest to clean up my Printer selection box in prusaslicer, it seems to me that maybe I can delete all my physical printers because we can now (if you have it activated) use prusa connect to send data to the printers. (privacy, keeping it in house with prusa link not withstanding)

but one of my printers is a Mk4 with MMU3 on it.. so if want IS and the MMU3 both activated, then maybe I need a user preset for that.. but perhaps not a physical printer?

Thoughts?

RE: version 2.8 makes physical printers redundant? (Prusa Connect)

Hi,

the physical printer is a strange concept in PrusaSlicer. I have a MK3.5 REVO MMU3 and an MK4.

Since I have a REVO nozzle I can't use PRUSA stock profiles, so for the MK3.5 I had to create two new User Presets for each nozzle size:

But then I was forced to create two new physical printers, one for each user profile.

This because each physical printer unfortunately does not contains only network info and login info for PrusaLink or PrusaConnect, but is hard linkd to the printer capabilities (#extruders, nozzle size, etc.)

The MK4 has also two physical printers associated to the stock PRUSA profiles, since I did nod changed anything from them.

One is with the Input Shaper, the other is without Input shaper.

So at the moment, the Physical Printer is all but redundant, and it is technically required in PRUSASlicer order to work correctly.

On the contrary, as concept, is a mess 🙄  It would have been much better to have only one physical printer profile, containing only network and security info and not bonded to the mechanical property, that are already in a system profile.
