Varying top layer infill pattern using modifier?
I am trying to create an artistic shading effect to specific regions of top layers (some at different layer heights). It is possible to use a modifier to iron only certain sections, for example, which is awesome, but not to change the top pattern infill so far as I can see. There is the possibility of modifying the regular infill, but the top pattern infill is only available as a global setting.

I think the confusion is around the default infill setting added when you select what modifiers you want to add. When you select you should see 3 choices Infill, Layers and Perimeters and Add Settings. If you just select Infill you get given the default infill options of fill pattern and fill density. These are what Prusa deem that the majority of people will want to use.
Instead of selecting Infill , select Add Settings. Add settings allows you to select many more options. From add settings you can also choose Infill. That option then has 9 options of which Top Fill Pattern is one of. So you can select it on a modifier basis. Either use different height range modifiers on the same model or actual modifiers if you want different areas of the same top layer.
Why not paint it if you need an artistic affect?

You need to be in Expert mode, then more settings will be made available. After you activate Expert, right click on your Object, Part, or Modifier and select "Add settings" then choose "Infill" from the menu.

That only changes regular infill, not top layer infill.

One way to "cheat", which may or may not give you what you want, is to add a modifier, set the infill to what you like to see, and then set top layers to 0 for it.
