SVG/Multi-Material Painting Help

I’m trying to make end of year gifts for the kids I coach. I brought in a SVG logo to place on a hockey puck and was hoping to paint some of the colors shown in the attached logo. Unfortunately in my experiments I cannot use the multi-material painting as I had hoped. I was hoping the smart select feature would identify open areas, the stinger area for example, but instead it paints the entire puck yellow.

I guess I could do it by hand, but before I do is there an easier way that I don't know about?

Thanks!

The 'smart selecting' is based on topology so a flat svg isn't really the best if you want that precise yellow/red borders, but it works great for the black parts.

The painting doesn't really work since the 'addons' don't count as the same stl wireframe without some kind of merge first. It would probably work better if you use CAD software but it can be done in PS, though kinda jank: Rightclick to export the overall object as an stl; Add that newly created stl into the project; Maybe need to fix it; Now you can paint it.

RE: SVG/Multi-Material Painting Help

Thats the kind of workflow I was looking for, I realize it’s not optimal, but under the circumstances would work. The original SVG is a little janky and I’ve been trying to figure out how to work with it, or fix it, but I’m not a “graphics design”guy, and have been extremely busy to figure it out.

Thanks for giving me an alternative.
