Support in ONLY certain Areas?

Hi,

I am making a USB Hub holder. It's the shape of a rectangular frame, with "slots" in the side, where the USB hub, slides in at an angle. There is an purposeful opening above and below the USB for airflow. The entire hub holder, and hub will sit under a guitar pedalboard.  (see www.pedaltrain.com if you don't know what that is)

CHALLENGE: I understand the need for supporting a rectangular frame with an opening in the center (see the pics).... however..... if I check support (which is more of a yes/no thing); then I get support filament in the slots as well - and it's WAY TOO difficult to cut or remove from the slots.

Is there a way to indicate "where" to have, and "where NOT" to have support?
Thanks!!

AJ

RE: Support in ONLY certain Areas?

Sure you can. With the Pain-on Support tool you can exclude certain areas such as those pockets from supports. Or you can paint only those areas that should get supports. See https://help.prusa3d.com/article/support-material_1698 for details.

I would suggest some quality time with the Prusaslicer sections of the Prusa knowledgebase https://help.prusa3d.com/category/prusaslicer_204

There's a treasure trove of great features to explore.

It's called that because drawing a straight line is a royal pain!

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!  I watched video on painting the areas you do and don't want support; then I tried it - it worked MOST EXCELLENT.

I appreciate your help.

RE: Support in ONLY certain Areas?

I've been using this method for years since swiss_cheese (we miss you!) posted it here. Works even on my Mac even though it'a a bit wonky. I wish there was an officially supported way to do this but Prusa seems more interested in pursuing fads like scarf seams (which have not worked well at all in my hands) rather than tackling some of the basics.
