Suggestions for improvements - PrusaSlicer

Bonjour,

I am not sure I am at the right place but I would like to make a few software improvements suggestions:

1) being able to increase the font size of the different panels will be great for my aging eys

2) unless I do not know the trick but when I rotate a part it will be nice if it will snap to common degrees: 45, 90, 180, 270 degrees

Keep up the good work - I just loved your slicer

André

Correct, the thread is pretty pointless.  People keep making suggestions here and it’s not the place to do it or effective. Until Prusa allocate staff time monitoring for such (which they do occasionally when they specifically request feedback such as the 8 bit software thread in the general forum) then it’s wasted effort. This is why we point out the correct place and means.
By all means keep posting to the forum but adding your voice to an existing issue on GitHub is far more effective as they are tracked and given issue numbers.

Feature suggestions and bug reports should be created on Github here https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues

As for the rotation that is already in there.  When you select the rotate tool with a part selected you my notice the circular pattern, if you move your mouse over the inner lines the angle snaps to those lines at 90 degree increments, if you move over the next section out they snap at 45 degree , basically each section out lets you do finer snap increments. If you have your mouse outside the pattern it’s a free rotation so you can get any angle you want.
And of course the 3 coloured grab handles allows you to rotate in the axis that you grab. It’s actually one of the best rotate tools I’ve ever used.

System font size is used. Why don't you increase system font size?

Unless I am missing something... If I change my system font size everything applications will be impacted and right now I do not have a problem with the font size of all other applications. see the attached files, without changing the system font size I show a screen capture of my Finder (which I read perfectly) and a screen capture of PrusaSlicer - notice the font size difference

Please feel free to make me realize what I am missing.

I will ask our tester to verify. I see you are on OSX, he is an OSX fan.

RE: Suggestions for improvements - PrusaSlicer

When printing large objects I find that if I slow the speed as the weight of the object increases I can avoid (or at least I believe I avoid) failures.

Repeated rapid accelerations with a heavy object can introduce resonant vibrations that can dislodge an object from the heat bed.

I suggest, instead of the user lowering the speed by interaction with the controls as the object increases in size, that the slicing software automatically reduce the magnitude of accelerations as the weight of the object increases.

Any thoughts?

Salut André

About the rotation issue, I had the same question: when rotating the model, make sure your mouse cursor touches the graduation lines, it will snap to it.

Suggestion: Option to add alignment pins to cuts.

I use the cut feature to either get large prints to fit or so I have to use fewer supports (and have less "ugly" sides that I have to finish). The issue with cuts is accurate alignment when gluing. I glue things, sometimes they slide as glue dries and I get a ridge or lip around the entire piece. If the cut tool had the option to add alignment pins (male on one side/female on the other or aligned pin holes a'la droid division alignment pins) it could greatly improve ease of gluing the two halves precisely. Could have options to adjust size, depth and placement of the pins.

That is being worked on.

That works by moving mouse over the ticks of the rotation gizmo.

Also with page up / down keys you may rotate by +-45 degrees

Option to add alignment pins to cuts.

It's already possible.

Create negative volume rods and move them into the cutting position. Cut the object and the negative volume keyways are preserved.

Create positive volume keys (less suitable tolerance) print all and assemble.

Cheerio,

RE: Suggestions for improvements - PrusaSlicer

This is very picky, but it would be nice to have.

When an object is loaded into PS, PS is, in general, very good at returning to the directory from which the object is loaded in subsequent file operations.

However, when saving (exporting) an object on the build plate to a .stl file, it starts off in the home directory, and in my case it usually needs three mouse clicks to get back to the working 3d project directory.  It would be nice for this operation to follow the other file operations and immediately start out in the directory from which the object was imported.

Yes, and the export plate to stl is the only place I've noticed it, but there may be others as well.

RE: Suggestions for improvements - PrusaSlicer

You guys need to use projects more.  If you load an stl into PS and then save a project, the default location it offers to save the project to is wherever you loaded the stl from.  Once saved as a project if you export as stl then the location it offers to save to is where ever you saved the project to.

As you are exporting an stl from PS then I think its a safe assumption that you have modified something (otherwise there would be no need to save anything).  In which case having the saved project makes sense anyway as it allows you to make changes at a later date.

RE: Suggestions for improvements - PrusaSlicer

Well, In the event that someone is actually paying attention to this post relative to suggestions that matter, wouldn't it be wonderful if the Objects in the Object pane on the sidebar actually remembered whether they were open or closed relative to their drop down position in the file, especially in the cases where Objects had multiple parts/shapes,Sink,paint-on supports and modifiers as well as having multiple objects. Instead of opening all of them all the way up every time you load the file or make a change to one of them? At the very least, it would be nice to have a collapse all shortcut or feature. This is the most basic of functionality of every program I've work with, and it’s been version upon version of Slicer that doesn't have it. We only have so much screen space and time, the windows version of slicer certainly isn't supporting this at this time. Or am I missing something?

I have to collapse this every single time I open this file and every single time I make a change to one of the objects, fix this please, and it's not about this specific file it happens with any multi object file on the windows version at least.

Sure we can down arrow, left arrow every single time we open a file, 10 or 20 times, or make a change, because that also opens every drop down again when we make a change, but wouldn’t this most basic of functions be handy for those of us that work with this software on a daily basis? isn't this more impotent then Fuzzy skins?is it worth the time? I don't know, maybe not. But it's driving me insane trying to use this like this.

To get to this, and having to do it over and over again while working with the project file.

I hope this is impotent to you.

Regards

One other feature that would be nice is one similar to that in Cura.

When a .3mf file is opened, Cura asks if you want to load the project (as in models plus settings and such) or just load the models using the existing settings.

That would be very handy when loading someone else's project.

RE:

LOL, @ Cura

I did notice cura finally figured out about adjusting extrusion widths, I haven't tried it yet, But I hope they did it right. It's been years in the making that some developer finally figured this out. It would be great if I didn't have to do this manually after all these years. Even if the algorithm did most of the work and I only had to make adjustments to it, that would be game changing, it takes a lot of time to do it manually. I  suspect they will have a couple of tuning to do, before they can do it as well as I can manually though.

More power to you Cura, it's about time.
