Suggested Improvement - Print Speed Information
I'm printing using a new filament for us, ESUN PETG. Since there isn't a profile, I modified the Generic PETG profile. Changing the temperatures is easy, of course, but where I run into problems, probably because of my own ignorance, is relating the information about flow from ESUN to the parameters available to me in PrusaSlicer. Quite rightly, PrusaSlicer uses a volumetric multiplier so you don't have to mess with a bunch of parameters. Because of my ignorance, I don't know how that value, which is currently set to 8mm/s^2 relates to the 60mm/s term given in the information sheet that came with my filament.
So here's my suggestion: show the values that are affected by Max Volumetric Speed in the panel next to it. I don't want to change those values directly. I just want to see how that value affects the ones I'm likely to see in information sheets. That would help educate those of us who still aren't experts. 🙂

Its not quite that simple. The max volumetric speed you can get depends on well, pretty much everything. Nozzle size, material (which can vary even for the same type of filament), layer height, printing temp, extruder type, etc etc etc. The Max Volumetric in the filament profiles are conservative generic values of what a v6 hotend with a .4 nozzle can handle. You have to actually determine what a filaments actual top is through experimentation in conjunction with all the other factors. Bob would be the one to talk to about that. His website has lots of good info on all sorts of things.
Most people cant be bothered with that so just use the basic values or similar. Also its a cap on speed so you could set all your speeds to something really high and set your volumetric to a reasonable value. That will slow things down automatically to a rate that your extruder can keep up with. However the quality isn't likely to be that good at some of those speeds which is why that's not the general approach. Then again if you are printing covid face shield frames and want max speed then that's not a huge factor which is what some users did I believe.

@neophyl's done a good job summarizing the basics, but I wanted to expand on this specific point. The only parameter (that I'm aware of) that setting MVS affects is speed. Layer heights and Extrusion Width are all fixed based on your settings, so the only thing left (MVS = Layer Height X Extrusion Width X Speed) for the slicer to adjust is speed.
While not exactly what you described, you can view the impact of MVS on speeds by slicing, then viewing speeds in preview mode to compare against your speed settings. MVS-modified speeds won't be flagged, but you'll notice affected features printing at slower speeds than you set.
