Specify extruder/part order with multipart object?

I've been playing with multi material printing on a single extruder and I'd like to specify which extruder/tool/color is used first. Is there a way to do this?

In this example (see screenshot, looking at the part from "below" the print bed), prusaslicer will do the following:

  • first print the white part of the first layer, then prompt me for a tool/filament change,
  • then print the black part of the first layer, then prompt me for a tool/filament change,
  • then continue with the rest of the part (all white)

I would prefer it if I could instruct prusaslicer to start with the black part (logo) for two reasons:

  • If the black (very thin) part is printed second, then it tends to be less visible
  • By doing white - black - white, prusaslicer introduces one extra filament change (instead of black - white)

I've tried changing the color of each extruder and reassigning to the parts but it looks like prusaslicer will always start with the outer part. Any help is appreciated!

in my experience , if you are using the printer in 'Manual MMU Mode' Prusa slicer always throws a redundant filament change in during the purge line then it starts the first  layer with the lowest number extruder, that is used on that layer,
You show extruder 1 as black and extruder 2 as white

If the model had a two colour theme all the way through (like a stick of rock on it's end, after the redundant first filament change,  I Would expect the printer to the Black motif on them first layer, then it would change to white, finish layer and do the white part of layer two, then it would change to black, finish layer two and do the black part of layer three, and so on until finished

If it were a five colour print with all colours on all layers, it would  print :-

Ext1, ext2, ext3, ext4, ext5, it would keep ext5 then raise to layer two then it wound print:-
Ext5, ext1, ext2, ext3, ext4, it would keep ext4  then raise to layer two then it wound print:-
Ext4, ext1, ext2, ect3, ext5, it would keep ext5 then raise to layer two then it wound print:-

it would then repeat the last two lines until the model finished
If any colour  is  not present in a layer then the printer would step over that extruder

If the printer printed filament 5 (ext5) last, on the previous layer, but filament 5 was not used on the next layer, then the printer would start the next layer on filament 1
Similarly If the printer printed filament 4 (ext4) last, on the previous layer, but filament 4 was not used on the next layer, then the printer would start the next layer on filament 1

Hi Joan,

Thanks for the quick reply. I was pretty sure I had tried to swap the extruders, but today I tried again and as you say, the slicer always starts with the first extruder. Thank you very much for your help!
