Slicing rc plane wing

Hello,

I have downloaded following test part:

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1538709

When I slice the wing segment, reinforcement parts are not sliced correct, so they are positioned in the air.
Could someone help me, what adjusmnet I have to do to prevent this?

Thank you

Kind regards!

Look at this video: I think, it´s solution for you.

I downloaded it and took a look.  The reason it doesn't slice properly is that a lot of the collection of parts aren't actually attached to each other and are floating in mid air.  The wing section consists of 52 separate parts.  As you can see part 16 one of the supports you mentioned isn't connected to anything.  There are many other parts that aren't either.

Hello together,

thank you for your answares. So if I understood the linked video from jarisomet right, its a feature, not a bug, that these are not attached to each other. So they force the slicer pogramm to print the outer shell in one move and afterwards printing the reinforcment structure. Due to the adjusted layer width the reinforcment structure and the outer shell gets connected... ...is this also possible to adjust with the prusa slicer, or I have to buy me the simplify 3d?

Kind regards!

I find this video: for older version of Prusa Slicer with setup. But the best option for MK3 is to use the prepared gcodes directly form manufacturer -  no slicing is needed. If you purchase a plane from 3dlab print, you get G-codes. Just copy them on SD card and you can print 🙂

You can adjust the printed widths for different types of print lines in Prusa Slicer yes.  That’s going to take some tweaking and testing to figure out the equivalent settings.

Shells ... this is what is in the wing, and some of the parts don't touch anything else, they do float.  One answer was the wing surface is a zero thickness plane rather than a filled volume.  Thus, printing will be problematic until that is fixed.

I doubt S3D or Cura can solve this.

You might try Plicer's XY compensation, but you'll get a general loss of detail.  Netfabb may help; or not. Meshmixer might be best, maybe selecting the wing cover and using extrude ...

If it's only those few top "plugs" that are offending, and they all all that standout as slicing problems, they can be fixed pretty easily in Meshmixer, or better in any good 3D CAD software.  You could also split the wing into parts or object and move them down a smidge.

But interestingly - I simply split the model into parts and sliced - most of the offending pieces went away and left the main shell intact and the nubs slicing as expected.

RE: Slicing rc plane wing

The wing models from 3dlabprints contain one hull body and multiple trusses. These STLs do not represent a valid 3D model or a set of 3D models, as the hull body is not water tight (it is open from the top and bottom), and the trusses overlap with the hull body (they are inside the wing hull). I have a good news, I believe I have convinced PrusaSlicer to handle such a model.

I have attached a 3mf file with https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1538709 imported and configured to be printed by PrusaSlicer 2.0 / 2.1. I did not print the model, but it shows the general idea.

I had to do the following:

1) Load the STL.

2) Split the STL into parts. This splits the STL into one wing hull part and multiple truss parts.

3) Find the wing hull part. It is the largest one. I renamed it to "wing" and drag & dropped it to the top of the part list.

4) I added the infill and perimeters overrides to the "wing" subpart and I modified the infill to zero percent, I changed the top and bottom layers to zero and I changed the number of perimeters to 1.

5) I disabled the "Clip multi-part objects" function at the Print settings -> Advanced page.

6) I ran the model through the Netfabb fixing service (PrusaSlicer integrates the service on Windows 10).

I shall talk to the 3dlabprints owner to provide 3mfs for PrusaSlicer.

The screenshot shows the sliced model and the wing model split to parts with the wing hull perimeters and infill modified.

@bubnikv

Thank you for posting this. I hope you can talk to 3DLabPrint guy and get some more information for us for printing with PrusaSlicer.  Can you explain why you had to do Step number 6 once it was already in the PrusaSlicer.  I do not understand the reason and how to do this step?

RE: Slicing rc plane wing

NetFabb is a tool for fixing types of problems in models that have errors.  The process is sort of black magic unless you really understand how 3D models use vertices and how they are supposed to interconnect.  But with Win10, Prusa Slicer has a pulldown to REPAIR a model using NetFabb's online service.

Win7 users can download and install a local copy of NetFabb to do almost the same ting (the cloud version is more current).

@bubnikv

Hi. I have tried that and ran the repair .STL file under the File menu and it still won't come out properly when I slice

trying to get things going again: any news?

The 3dlabprint gcodes are good and well, but I do not want to print piece by piece...

Please read the following thread. Maybe it will help:
