sequential printing extruder clearance Prusa XL

Can someone please tell me:

What are the values for the sequential printing parameters for the Prusa XL??

Why is the first one the overall distance from the nozzle and not a separate X and Y size for the printhead?? (the slicer has to take into account the position of the nozzle or this has to be a separate set of parameters)

Why is this a printing parameter and not a printer parameter??

Thanks in advance!

I'd also be curious about these questions. Sequential printing sounds great, but without better documentation we're risking damage to our printers.

Sequential printing only really makes sense for single filament prints and even then only when the design is easy to print.  Almost all sequential prints trigger slowdowns for filament to cool so often it's slower than parallel printing.  I have never found a sequential build worthwhile except in the old days when I knew the spool would run out and didn't have another the same colour - that way only one two coloured part was printed.

Cheerio,

Cheerio,

I use it for precision parts.  The amount of cooling time between layers affects final part size.  So for example of I print a single part it comes out a different size than if I print 10.  This is for the exact reason you mentioned about cooling time.

I also use it for multi material prints but you need to be very careful to prevent a crash during a Toolchange.  I'm actually working with Prusa at the moment on trying to implement lowering the bed between Toolchanges.  I remember your comment on my thread about that.

I agree though that for 99% of users this will cause more headaches because you really need to know what your doing.

The answer is tricky, left to right, 45mm radius is safe, but front to back it's more like 65mm radius.  Because of this you need to very carefully layout your parts and you can't really use the built in collision function because if you put in 65mm you can't hardly print anything as not much will fit on the bed.

Vertical clearance is tricky too.  It depends on how you lay out your parts.  If the gantry passes over previously printed parts then your clearance is the distance from the nozzle to the gantry.  If it doesn't pass over previously printed parts then you'd input a value higher then your tallest part.

Like previously mentioned this is for advanced users.  What you input here and how you lay out your parts will determine your success.

Also if you have Toolchanges you need to consider that the tool head will have to return to the dock, possibly crashing into other parts.

Get it wrong and your going to crash the machine.  As of right now crash detection does not work with input shaping.  So unless your watching you machine it will just non stop crash until you stop it.  Ask me how I know .....

Haha, I'll not ask then.

Thanks, this is very helpful. I have some vase mode, single-color precision prints where sequential mode would really help. I'll lay them out front to back and give it a try.
