Prusament PETG disappears from presets after nozzle change... is this normal?

I swapped nozzles a few weeks back to a .6, from a .4

Tonight I went to print something in Prusament PETG, and that option had completely vanished from the presets. I tinkered with a few things, but in the end, that just doesn't come up as an option with the larger nozzle entered into the fields for the extruder. Generic PETG comes up fine, but Prusament, nope.

Is this normal? Does Prusa just not recommend their filament with bigger nozzles, so they don't allow that preset to be used in the slicer? I could see from an oddball PR direction that they don't want to guarantee how their filament will perform once the defaults have been altered, but even still this just seems bizarre...

In "filament profiles selection" of the config wizard you can select which profiles you want to add to which printer. I assume you have two printer profiles, one for 0.4 and one for 0.6.

I do have multiple profiles. But even with profiles that start at stock setup, as soon as I start altering the profile, Prusament PETG mysteriously vanished from the list of available filaments. I’ve tried manually adding it back in, but haven’t figured out how just yet. (I found the list of selectable filament brands and types to be added manually, but can’t figure out how to add prusament back to the list for the printer profiles.)

OK, using the latest RC1 of Prusa Slicer 2.3 with the latest configuration bundle, I just added the 0.6 nozzle version of my Mk3.

When swapping from the 0.4 to the 0.6 the filament list changes from having "Prusament PETG" to listing one called "Prusament PETG @0.6 nozzle" so there is a profile available, just not the same one as for the 0.4.

Make sure you have the latest config bundle (Configuration>Check for Updates).

If you switch to your 0.4 printer profile and select the Prusament PETG profile under Dependencies you will see a line that has "nozzle_diameter[0]!=0.6 and printer_model!="MK2SMM" and printer_model!="MINI" and ! (printer_notes=~/.*PRINTER_VENDOR_PRUSA3D.*/ and printer_notes=~/.*PRINTER_MODEL_MK(2.5|3).*/ and single_extruder_multi_material)"  in it (thats from the current bundle).  Note the start bit 'nozzle_diameter[0]!=0.6'.  That section is basically saying not allowed for nozzle size 0.6 on nozzle[0].  Its also limited to the single extruder multi material and only the Mk2.5 or Mk3 printers AND also printers that are part of the Prusa3D vendor space.

Basically the new vendor space and inherited profiles have it all locked down, you have to match the conditions Exactly to have the filament appear and work.

I love what Prusa is doing with PrusaSlicer, but I really hate the way they're trying to use increasingly complex dependencies to handle filaments. I've cut out all of the Prusa filament profiles from the installation files, removed the dependencies, and created "detached" copies of most of the default filament set. You can import these as a config bundle into PrusaSlicer. Of course, they won't be updated when Prusa pushes out updates, and over time, they may add more filament types, but this should give a good starter set. You can download the .ini file here.

Funnily enough I did the same with ALL the ones that were in the bundle at the time and uploaded it to a post lost in the mists of time.  Its still in my media library here on my account though

GenericFilaments_Neo_20200401

Its a bit out of date now but at the time I put it together due to all the people asking why there weren't any filament profiles available for their non prusa printers.  All I did was strip out the prusa dependency and renamed them so as not to conflict with the system ones.  Still have all the LA values though so use at your own risk, ymmv, yada yadda  🙂

On the one hand, I’m having reactions to what seems like an encroaching amount of control in an otherwise open source, free spirited environment.

On the other hand, I’m happy to see that I’m able, as a new guy, to find the topics that hit a nerve with a group of clearly respected village elders.

(For what that’s worth.)

Pick up this thread with the same Problem....or lets say its more a question now.

Added 0.6 nozzle.

ALL existing filament profiles still there. Except 2 of them and they are PETG

If i want to build a new one with the same name, it gives me the info a: name exists, it will overwritten and b: incompatible.

i searched thru the settings......but found nothing.

then i saw that even "Stock System Presets" have also a "2nd" Preset now that didnt appear on 0.4 nozzle "Printer"
and opposite only the "@0.6 nozzle" is visible.

My question now is simpel....why only PETG Filament Presets arent usable from 0.4 to 0.6 nozzle?
