Prusa Slicer Non-Planar

I saw that a YouTuber (Teaching Tech) posted that there was a new version that brought the Non-Planar slicing (that was formerly only available with Slic3r running on Linux) to Windows OS. 

I would like to at least try Non-Planar as I have a good use case that should benefit greatly from such. 

I wasn't able to get my version to have the Non-Planar option/settings.

 The video that TT posted shows says download the file from GitHub and launch a .exe file from the folder. 

I saw no .exe file(s) to do that.

I had a later software than 6.0 but didn't see any executable regardless.

Can anyone here help me to get Prusa Slicer set up with Non-Planar?

Download the "Release.7z" from https://github.com/teachingtechYT/PrusaSlicer/releases/

Open/unpack using 7zip and you'll get a folder called Release that has the usual looking stuff.

When you first run the fork you'll get a couple popups. One you just click through, the other tells you that you'll have to redo your printer configs (since you'll most likely be 'downgrading' from 2.7.4 configs back down to 2.6). So you may want to backup some things just in case. So go through the config wizard and you'll get what's shown in the video.

 

One thing I noticed is the GUI gets (more) wonky looking after switching printers. The workaround seems to be to switch printers first and then just restart PS.

Also seems the 2.6 config wizard seems to only come with XL 1T and not 5T nor IS of any sort.

Never actually tried printing anything, just checking out the software.

Thank You. I had no idea I needed a particular Zip extraction program or what file exactly to download. I had learned that it was only for 2.6 and that should be ok for me. I'm not very current in my experience with Prusa Slicer anyway. I don't know what XL 1T and not 5T nor IS, is sorry. 

I'm only resonably proficient at operating a printer.

I do understand that there are issues with the Non-Planar right now. I think it is a good capability to have though and want to see it get continue development in the future. 

I'll be giving it a try very soon and post what the results are.

XL 1T = Prusa XL, one toolhead

XL 5T = Prusa XL, five toolheads

IS = Input shaper

 

Non-planar is really cool, but like he says in the video: you're gonna need a setup where your nozzle hangs down low with ample space around it. I don't think it'll work so well, or at least not usefully, on a stock Prusa extruder setup unless youre planning on printing something already super shallow and doesn't need part cooling. Something like CNCKitchen's redneck volcano setup where you just use a volcano nozzle and a nut or two seems strangely appropriate for this. It might even work better on a Nextruder (adapter) type than the mk3/mini because then you wouldn't even have to worry about pinda stuff. Just remember its basically alpha software so get ready for things to break.

I think slicer could hypothetically account for default (and allow to customize) shape of things around nozzle to warn user that something will collide with the part being printed.
You'd be able to reorient the part to make it fit sometime.
It would still be useful to be able to print smooth surfaces even if supported slope is fairly limited out of the box.
