Prusa slicer error or bad parameter??

Screen shot from PrusaSlicer of the R3 Einsy Base for the Mk3.  I suspect there's a parameter that would clean this up, not that it's a critical error.  Still, I'd like to know how to avoid this in the future.  Obviously the "R3" did not print correctly.  The STL model clearly shows the "R3" crisp and clean.  The slicing corrupts the image.

Ok, I now say broken model 🙂  I imported the stl into PS2.3 and sliced to confirm the same issue.  In fact with the settings I was using it actually looked worse than your picture.  I then tried the usual rotating the part to see if it made any difference.  Nada.

Opened the stl in Blender and ran the 3dprint tool report on it.  That reported 9 non manifold edges plus some other errors that dont usually cause an issue with PS.  So I ran the Make manifold button and exported the fixed version.  Placed it next to the original and sliced.

The original is on the left and the fixed on the right.  As you can see from the image the fixed one slices correctly. Click to see full image.

Is that part normally printed with 4 perimeters ?  I suspect its the perimeter planner and the sharp angles of the text.  It could also be the model , all it would take is one vertices slightly out of place (flipping the normal in a corner for example) which wouldnt show up with less perimeters but add enough and it would 'tip' the placement possibly.

As far as Im aware there no setting for that.  I have seen something similar in a different Slicer based on PS but that was a bug in a feature addition so it probably isnt a PS issue.  If you zip up and attach the stl or post a link to the same file you used someone could take a look.

Hey that's awesome!  I've used Meshmixer in the past and hated it.  I remember having to repair non-manifold edges.  I didn't realize Blender could do the same thing.  I've downloaded Blender and played with it for art but can't seem to get past the learning curve.  Now I have another reason to push through.  Thank you for the help.

No problem. The latest Blender releases since 2.8 are way better than the earlier ones. It’s also under some of the most intense development of just about any software I’ve ever since.
The 3dprint tool is part of Blender but you have to enable it from the list of add-ons. It doesn’t always work on really badly broken stuff but it’s nearly as good as the netfabb option and even when it doesn’t work it will show you where it thinks errors are.
You won’t use most of Blender for 3D print use but there are loads of YouTube vids on how to use it so while the learning curve is steep there are plentiful resources for learning.

Another option is netfabb. While its interface looks like written by a child 40 years ago it has a good analysis and repair function. I don’t use it for anything else.

You can download a free, ancient desktop version, plus there’s a web version.
