Prusa Slicer 2.3.0 on Ender 3 V2, facing over extruding issue

Hi,

I have an Ender3 V2.

Up to now I have been using Cura Slicer without any major problems.

But I want to switch over to Prusa Slicer as it looks like it has much better features that I can use.

My only problem on the Prusa slicer is that is trying to over extrude.

I can hear the extruder stepper motor(getting stuck while trying to push in more filament) all the time while printing. So it is trying to push too much filament into the bowden tube.

I have calibrated my esteps on the printer and it will extrude exactly the correct amount.

Under filament I have set the extrusion multiplier lower to 0.9 but it still sounds like it is trying to force to much filament into the printer

I do not have this issue with cura, so I know the hardware should be fine, I also tried to add dual extruder but removed it as to limit the variables I change at a time.

I can paste my entire config here but it is basically the one provided by Chuck Hellebuyck

Any assistance or direction where to look for the problem will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Walter

Here is my basic setup

Prusa Slicer 2.3.0 on Windows 10 Pro (OS build 19042.804)

Ender 3 V2 (mods: micro swiss all metal hotend, bltouch sensor ,capricon bowden tube and octoprint on a rpi 3B+)

Hi Walter, the Prusa slicer profiles for the Prusa Printers have this line in the end ot the Custom Gcode, Start Gcode

M221 S{if layer_height<0.075}100{else}95{endif}

this sets the flow ratio to 95% if the layer height is 0.075 or greater

You might like to try this in the Ender profile

Hi Joan

Thanks, I will definitely give this a try.

I see there is an Advanced feature "Printer Settings->General->Enable variable layer height" on the and in its info tab it states that some printers may have difficulty printing with this, is this a specific feature of the prusa printers?

Best regards

Walter

Hi Walter,

I have exactly the same issue. Have you managed to solve it?

Thanks a lot,

Giuseppe

Hello Walter

I am also having the exact same issue. Have you been able to fix this problem yet? If so, what did you do?

Hi

Yes I was able to get it to work properly

My main issue was that my first layer was to close to the bed.

I then used the setting Joan suggested "M221" and then it starting printing nice again

Thanks

Walter

Welcome to the party,

Perhaps if you let us know what issues you are having, and include some pictures and the associated project file (.3mf file, which has been zip compressed to make it acceptable to the forum software),
W may be able to help you achieve success.

Hello Joan thank you,

I dont know how to better describe the issue further than Walters description. The prints are simply incomplete as if it ran out of filament.

Hi Oxidiser.
As I said above,

Perhaps if you let us know what issues you are having, and include some pictures and the associated project file (.3mf file, which has been zip compressed to make it acceptable to the forum software),

this may help us identify the issue that you find hard to describe!

What is a little worrying, it that the original poster was trying to address an OVER EXTRUSION issue, whereas in the last post, you are saying that the prints are incomplete as if the extruder ran out of filament. which, is UNDER EXTRUSION.

the information that I copied from a Prusa Profile, above was suggested to reduce over extrusion.

In an under extrusion situation, it would make matters worse.

I would suggest to go through this setup

https://teachingtechyt.github.io/calibration.html

and make sure your printer is setup correctly

These calibration settings are slicer independent (except when you get to "Slicer Flow rate")

I have also included my setup in prusa slicer

do not just import as I have modified ender3 and I use arc welder

So these settings wont work for you as they are now, but you can use as reference.

But after you go through the calibration from front to back (don't skip any) your printer and slicer will work like a dream
