Printer Profile for an Ultimaker Original?

Hi all,
I have a 'new to me' Ultimaker Original (UMO),
and I wonder if anyone has a Printer Profile for the UMO, for the Prusa Slicer?

I did a quick Google search for 10 pages and nothing.  Hopefully, some here can help you.

@cwbullet

Thank you for do the search.  I had a similar experience.

But I suppose, I might eventually have to simply learn to set it up, by the trial-and-error method.
Other  projects do however need to be finished first, before I can submerge myself into any new projects/tasks.

So here is me, still hoping that someone might already be working on using the Prusa Slicer with their Ultimaker Original. And are willing to share their current state of settings and experiences.

Didn't @jsw buy an Ultimaker? Not the same type, but there may be similarities.

RE: Printer Profile for an Ultimaker Original?

Yes, around the first of the year I got an Ultimaker S5, one of the newest models, although this particular one is well over a year old.  The one I have is quite different from the UMO.

I have not even tried to use the S5 with PS.  I use both PS and Cura with the I3, and I simply added the S5 to Cura and it's done everything I need, at least so far.

IIRC, there have been some folks here who have used PS on the older Ultimakers, so you might just do a search.  There's also occasional Ultimaker chatter on the Reprap Forum, and, of course, on the Ultimaker Forum.

I'm not sure what flavor of gcode the UMO uses, but I'm quite sure it's different from that used by the S5, which uses a flavor called 'Griffin' which is newer and not that well documented.  IIRC, the older Ultimakers use a more or less common .gcode file, but the S series uses a bundled .ufp (zip variant?) file which has the gcode along with some metadata.

If I were you, I would search here, also on the Ultimaker and Reprap fora, and perhaps peruse the various github files for PS.

@jsw

Great information. Thank you.

As to flavor of gcode, I have upgraded my UMO (Ultimaker Original), with the latest version of Marlin.
For some reason, there were no default/basic configuration example in the Marlin Configurations examples collections, for the UMO. A bit odd, as the UMO is what gave birth to the first iteration of the Malin Firmware.
Either way, now the Marlin Firmware includes an example configuration for the UMO.

I will try to do some targeted searching in the Reprap Forum, and the Ultimaker Forum

I also got the idea to do a search for "Prusa Slicer - getting started", as that might show me how others, with non-Prusa brand printers have done.
This might ease my introduction to the configuration options of the PrusaSlicer.

But still, thank you to all who have helped me get some very good clues, that will aid my continued efforts to establish a solution.

As luck will have it, a search for "prusa slicer getting started with a printer"  gave a video suggestion from 'Chris's Basement', that also gives a very basic introduction setting up the Prusa Slicer for any printer:

The video is meant to introduce some basic gcode information, but Prusa Slicer is being used for the examples!
So it also becomes an excellent introduction of how to get started with Prusa Slicer.

So perhaps this can also be a good starting point, for use with any other printer, that does not yet have a 'printer profile' included with the Prusa Slicer?

Nice find.  I am new to custom GCODE in the past 6 months.  I found the video very informative.  @Bobstro has a lot information on his site also.  It is more Prusa oriented but should be helpful.

Oh, if that's the case, it's mostly a question of getting your Marlin settings entered into the printer preset. I start by copying the information from M500 (feedrates, acceleration, jerk etc.) into the machine limits tab, then work on the appropriate gcode. The extruder settings are pretty basic. That's the worst of it. Then you tweak the machine limits until you get good quality results.
