PLA Temperature default

Hi,

beginner question:

in PrusaSlicer the default nozzle temperature for PLA is set to 230 degrees. Everywhere else (like on the spools) it says maximum 215 or 220 degrees. What's going on here? Am I missing something?

Cheers,
Martin

RE: PLA Temperature default

Are you looking at MK4, or XL profiles?

These often use higher temperatures for faster printing.

That is MK4S, yes.

They've upped the temp recently, I assume to facilitate printing at higher speeds and with a high flow nozzle.

Does that work for the bed temperature as well? Use what the filament manufacturer says or something higher?

To be honest, I never look at the spools. Unless there's a brand-specific profile, I just run everything with Generic or Prusament profiles. Only in the (very rare) case that I see issues, I run a temp tower. For bed temps I still have to come across anything that requires me to adjust the (Prusa) temperature, and I currently have 80+ materials/colors in use.

230 is necessary imo for PLA on the MK4S or you risk underextrusion for the reasons @foxrun3d mentioned.

I've actually bumped it up to 235 occasionally when using the speed profile because I was seeing changes in the sheen of the material when it was printing solid infill.
