Multi-material Painting Extruder Selection vs Extruder selections in Print Settings->Multiple Extruders->Extruders
What is the interaction between these two settings that both impact which extruder does what. I am using Prusa Slicer with a Sovol04, two extruder idex machine. If I change the Extruder selections in the Print setting->Multiple Extruders then it can affect the multi-material paint extruder selections I previously made. How do I set the extruder selection in the Print Settings so that the Multi-material painting extruder selections I made are the ones used?
RE: Multi-material Painting Extruder Selection vs Extruder selections in Print Settings->Multiple Extruders->Extruders
The Prusa knowledgebase article https://help.prusa3d.com/article/assigning-tools-colors-extruders_124811 describes what options exist but doesn't specify which ones take precedence.
From experimentation my conclusion is that if you explicitly assign an extruder to a part, all components of that part (perimeters, infill etc) will be printed with that extruder. If you leave the extruder set to Default, that part will use whatever extruders were set in Print Settings->Multiple Extruders->Extruders for its components.
Paint-on extruder selection also seems to override Print Settings->Multiple Extruders->Extruders
