Modifier for first layer
Hello,
maybe it was already discussed, but is it right, that a modifier does not affect the first layer?
I my case, I would like to reduce printing speed in certain areas, where there fine structures in the first layer.
The modifier seems to by right, as the following layers react as they should do. Only the first layer is not affected.
I only could reduce the printing speed for the whole first layer.

The problem with doing it with a modifier lies in the way PS implements modifiers. When you use a modifier that has different settings it internally slices the areas as different models. This can lead to perimeters where you dont want them and all sorts of other artefacts.
Theres a fork of Prusa Slicer called Super Slicer. That already has overrides for speed that can be applied to the first layer like you want.
Unfortunately when you do so you get less than optimal results which would mess up your perimeter text due to the problems I outline above.
For example here is part of a calibration cube with a modifier covering a corner to drop the speed down. Its next to an identical calibration cube with no modifier.
So not only would a feature request have to ask for the settings to be added to the modifiers you would also have to request that modifier meshes functionality be completely redone to not create the perimeters.
That request has already been made, quite awhile a go too.
RE: Modifier for first layer
First layer already has specific settings for speed. Thats probably why a modifier isnt doing what you expect.
Under Print Settings>Speed>Modifiers>First Layer Speed. You need to be in advanced or expert mode to see the settings though.
In there you can enter either a fixed speed (like 20mm) or a percentage. If its a percentage then it uses the percentage of the normal speed type for that feature. So if your normal perimeter speed was set to say 60mm/s and you had first layer speed set to 50% then first layer perimeters would be printed at 30mm/s
Just checked the modifier options for speed and First Layer speed isn't listed in there so its not an option that you can set with a modier.
You could make a feature request to get first layer speed setting added to the modifiers over on github though.
RE: Modifier for first layer
The first layer has its own speed setting in PrusaSlicer. So if you want to modify this, you need to change the correct speed setting.

I guess the op knows about First Layer Speed. He's question is about layer modifiers appearently not working on the first layer.
RE: Modifier for first layer
My printing modell has some quite small (7mm) text engraving in its first layer. It is roughly 5% of the area of the first layer.
Slowing down the complete first layer works and I have done this with much better results for the text. The rest of the first layer (95%) could be printed in normal speed. So it might be a good idea to get the modifiers to include the first layer too.

It might still be worth checking out Super Slicer, it has more settings but the one that comes to mind is that the speed for first layer allow you to set one speed for perimeters and another for the first layer infill.
When I use it I normally set my perimeters to around 20mm and the infill up to 40mm. That can make a huge difference on the first layer print time.
