Missing Profiles

Hi,

An update went on yesterday for Slic3r PE and now when I close and reopen the app all of the profiles are gone.

The app loads with my Anycubic I3 profile. No Prusa settings at all

I can recover them by loading a project.

Any ideas ?

RE: Missing Profiles

The profiles have a filter for the printer assigned. Choose another printer profile and you will see other print and filament profiles.

RE: Missing Profiles

Hey All! I had this issue with the printers I was importing too. I just posted a video on my YT channel on how I fixed it. It may help you out.

Please read https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/prusaslicer/prusa-2-2-0-does-not-show-filaments-tab-in-configuration-assistant/.
‘if you want generalised filaments you can import the ones from the zip in that thread.

The problem you have with doing what you have is that now your ender 5 is defined as an ender 3, if at a later date the ender 3 profile gets updated then those changes will also be applied to your ender 5 profile (where not specifically defined in your ender 5 profile). Basically the inherits process says use the parent unless defined.  That inherits can pass through several levels too. I’m not familiar with what the ender 3 profile has in it but I am familiar with the filament ones now.

So for example something like pla has an inherits from common, then the settings from pla, you can then have another filament based on the pla type XYZ pla. Any changes made to common that weren’t defined in either pla or XYZ pla would be applied to both of them automatically.   The same goes for your printer definition.   If you updated pla then changes would also be used in XYZ pla too and anything else based on it.

To give you a concrete example, say Common has a print temp defined of 205 degrees  You then create a filament profile called PLA that didn’t define print temp but inherits from Common, it would use 205 degrees as that’s in common.  Now say you created a new profile called PLA2 but this one defines print temp as 215 degrees.  If you (or Prusa) updated Common to have a print temp of 240 degrees then PLA would now also have a print temp of 240 degrees, PLA2 however would still have 215 as that was defined in its settings.  A very powerful mechanism if you know what you are doing.  If you don’t though then future updates from Prusa could have unintended consequences due to your ‘hack’.

This is why Prusa have provided the detach button on print and filament profiles so you can break that link when you make a copy. It won’t be fixed as that was the intentional design change made going forward.

@neophyl

That makes sense. I was hoping people would be able to see them, then make their own copies from there. To be honest, I didn't notice that new button and when searching I didn't see anyone say that it was a possibility. I am probably going to have to make another video showing how to do it that way. If I am looking at it correctly, it just makes a detached copy of the item and can be edited from there correct?
