meaningless bridge infill

Hello,

I am trying to 3D print something and Prusa slicer (2.5.0.) gives a lot of bridge infill even on a 2nd layer. Why? Can somebody analyze the setting that i am using and try to figure out how to avoid such a behavior as it prolongs the printing time unnecessary and the print quality is bad as well as those bridge infill seems to be affected by bridge flow ratio (so it is under extruded). Unfortunately, I have seen these bridge infill lately almost in all of my 3D prints. See the file: priruba_125mm

RE: meaningless bridge infill

Looking at the file, I noticed some discrepancy between the chosen print setting of (0.16mm Optimal) and the layer height in the "print settings" tab, which is .4mm.

(At least that's what I see without having a real ender 3 Profile installed.) But I guess that's what generates the bridge infills.

Well this is really weird. I tried to do as you suggested to change the layer height to 0,16 and I got only small amount of bridge infill as I would be expecting. On the internal infill layer, which is set to 20%, so there are big gaps and bridge infill above this layer is expected and make sense. What does not make sense that when I change the layer height back to 0,4 I do not get so many bridge infill as initially posted (I got like 10 layers of bridge infill layers which does not make sense at all). So changing layer height to 0,16 and back to 0,4 mm seems to solve the issue....

Glad you found a workaround. I think it's even more weird that the two settings are not initially synchronized. When I choose another layer height in print settings on the main tab, it's transferred to the layer height setting on the print settings tab. I also don't understand why it's even possible to use two different values on different tabs. (Of course being able to define a different height for the first layer makes sense.)

Not sure why its doing the bridge infill for those areas.  It really shouldn't and I'm guessing there's a software bug somewhere caused by a particular combination of settings.  It can be worked around in a couple of ways though.

First way is to reduce your layer height to 0.3.  At that point it puts normal solid infill for the layers like its supposed to do.  I wish PS would force the limit set in the extruder as there the max layer height is defined as 0.28.

Second way which I think is better as it allows you to use your 0.4mm layer height still is to change the bridge flow from 0.85 to 1.0 under Print Settings>Advanced>Flow>Bridge Flow Ratio.  That also restores the normal solid infill for the other top and bottom layers.  You should really also turn off the Thick bridges option on Print Settings>Layers and Perimeters.  There's almost never a case where having enabled works better.
