Marlin (legacy) or Marlin 2

I just noticed the slicer showing g-code flavor of Marlin (legacy). Are we supposed to stop using that? I'm on a MK3S+ printer and wondering why it says that as default option.

Marlin is the firmware that the printer uses to interpret and implement the G-code commands.

So which version you have to use simply depends on which firmware is loaded on the printer. Prusa Firmware >4.0 uses Marlin 2. <4 (like the one in your i3) Marlin 1 (legacy). One big difference between the two versions is the LinearAdvance implementation, for example. Flow control with which sharp edges can be printed more cleanly.

Why does it seem like with the release of Mini, the MK3s were left in the dust when it comes to software? Prusa Firmware 4.0 will probably never even exist for MK3.

Honestly, I am baffled, that they still didn't make a 32bit upgrade for MK3 to unify those 2 printers and use single modern firmware from the Mini on both printers.

Or at least document and provide firmware for a third party board. Breath a bit more life into the old dog. Who knows, if enough people show an interest they have another income stream and lengthen the life cycle of a tried and tested sound design.

I'm also fairly frustrated by the lack of firmware updates for the MK3. It's still Prusa's flagship 3D printer, so why aren't they making improvements? I've already switched to the Bear 2.1 frame, Revo Hemera XS extruder, and the pain of such old firmware is becoming more apparent every day. At some point I'm probably just going to replace the EINSY board, at which point, will it even really be a Prusa anymore?

Does this still apply to the 6.0.0+14794 firmware?

4.4.1 would show a Marlin logo on the mini boot screen, but the 6.0 shows nothing.

I only ask because PrusaSlicer wizard defaults to RepRap for some reason and I’m new to this family. Figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask and update it, as this thread pops up first on google.
