Making holes in the wall of a hollow object
Is there a simple to explain method for making a thru wall hole in the wall of an object? I am using 3D Builder and prusa slicer.
RE: Making holes in the wall of a hollow object
Never used 3dbuilder so cant help there. Surely theres some help forum for that software ? If you wanted blender help it would be different 🙂
If you arent worried about being precise with the hole position you could use a modifier in Prusa Slicer.
Place your model as usual, right click on it and add modifier>cylinder (if you want a round/oval hole). The manipulate the modifier to where you want the hole, resize/rotate etc till its right and then select it on the right, change the objects settings to no infill, top, bottom and perimeters to 0 and then slice. You should now have a hole in the part where the modifier is. You can even move the modifier around and reslice to re-position the hole. Remember you can copy and paste modifiers too.
Its easier in proper modelling software as editing the model is preferred but the tools Prusa Slicer has can help out if you cant edit the model for some reason.
RE: Making holes in the wall of a hollow object
You method worked great. I later found that in the modeling SW 3D Builder all I needed to do was make an object of the size needed and long enough to penetrate the wall, place it where I wanted and use the subtract function with that object and walla a hole was formed.
Thanks for the reply.
