Import STL without centering

I'm trying to make a two colour print, with letters embedded on a surface, however when I import the STLs that make up the letters, they all get centred on the build plate (even though auto-centre parts is switched off).

I've inspected the STLs in a text editor and I'm convinced that they have the facets defined at the correct locations (i.e. away from the centre) but I cannot get PrusaSlicer to respect those coordinates and instead it centres the bounding box at the origin.

Is this a bug? Or am I doing something wrong?

Hi Steeveeet,
you may be doing it wrong.

If the STL's were saved with their relative positions, try either:-

1, Import all STL's at the same time, the prusa slicer should ask if you want to consider the files as a multi material model, reply Yes! or
2, import the first part, then right click on the first part in Prusa Slicer, and choose load part, from file, and load the second part, repeat for any remailing parts this should retain their relative positions

regards Joan

Select them all and then hit Shift-A.  It should arrange them not he plate for you.

This actually didn't work for me, I wasn't prompted to see if if I wanted to consider it as a multi material model, however I wonder whether that's because the configured printer is single material...

2, import the first part, then right click on the first part in Prusa Slicer, and choose load part, from file, and load the second part, repeat for any remailing parts this should retain their relative positions

This, however, is perfect! This did exactly what I needed (and also make perfect sense in terms of the maths - which I always find satisfying). Note that I was able to multi select all the sub parts from in the load file dialog and they all came in with their correct positions.

@steeveeet

Good news.  Have you tried to auto-arrange?

Auto arrange certainly spread the parts out, however I needed to keep them all in the same position relative to each other as defined in Fusion360.

Auto arrange changes the translation of the parts so that they don't overlap but actually, for a multi colour print, you want them to overlap in a very specific manner
