how to save filament selection

Is there any way of saving which filaments are in the multimaterial? I can't seem to save them without literally exiting the slicer, which I don't really like to do...

Prusa slicer doesn't really have the concept of saved sets of profiles.  It just saves the last used state (if it can).

However the common work around is to save a project file.  As a project file contains a snapshot of your setup (models, modifiers, print, filament, printer profiles etc) then you can also use a project to save a particular combination.

Just open a saved project and it all gets restored.  As you should really really be saving projects when slicing anyway as its a good work routine to get into generally.  Especially as you can load in the settings from any saved old project to use later using the import config from project option.

Oh, that's highly annoying and I didn't expect that. What I want to do is to save the state of the physical printer, which filament is wired where. Thanks, I guess I'll file another issue...

Good luck with that.  I'm not sure what they can do though as the slicer has no idea whats in the printer and never will have with any of the current hardware.  Its all one way data flow.

I'm not sure what you mean. If it can save it when I exit the slicer I'm sure it can save it at other times as well.

What I meant is that the slicer itself  has no way of knowing what is actually loaded into the printer.  If you change filaments then it cant know you have as that is down stream of the slicer.  If you get a mismatch between what it thinks its using and what is loaded then theres nothing that can be done about that.

If all you want is to save a particular configuration/setup that you have in the slicer then what is the functional difference between saving a PS project file and some other means of saving those settings accessed through the menu ?  There isnt any.  A project file IS Prusa Slicers way of saving a snapshot of your working environment. Its just as easy to go File>Save Project As as it would be to go File>Save Settings.

They are self contained and pretty flexible.  You can even store modifiers and other things you use often in them to use for applying to other things.
Theres no limit on how many 'presets' you can store in this way either.  Just try altering your workflow slightly to incorporate the step of saving projects.  It quickly becomes second nature and has saved me from quite a few 'whoopsies'.

Huh? I use the MMU2 as a filament selector since it's almost completely useless for anything else. Black PLA in 1, blackPET in 2, white PET in 3, etc. I don't usually change filaments between projects.

But when I do, I want them saved for the next project too.

I can't save them for the next project by saving a project file. I want them as the new default.

Yes you can.  Just save a project called default.  Make your changes as you work and then save it as default again.  Any changes you have made to the mmu filaments in the dropdowns will be saved too.  The when you open PS just load in your default project.  It's really not hard.
