How do I only create supports where I want them, in the shape that I want? (not Support Enforcer)

I've got a complex shape.  I've also got a lot of teeny supports pre-modeled in to the same file. Great!

And thanks to OpenSCAD, the solid parts are one "part", and the supports are another "part", and I've changed the support part to "support enforcer".

But... that's not quite right!  The Support Enforcers are like paint - "support this part of the model right here."  What I really want them to be is "See this part?  It is a support structure! I already did all the work for you, don't design your own snug supports, use this pre-designed part, treat it like a support, make sure it has enough gap from the part to be detachable, fill it with support hollowness"

Is there any way to indicate "this part is a support, please treat it as such"?

Nope.  Not really.  You can apply specific settings to the 'other' part like different perimeter and infill settings etc but they will never be actual support as far as PS is concerned. They are just another printable object.
That's the whole point of designing your own support.  You have to set any clearances, sizes etc between your support parts and your desired objects.  You get control.  The flip side is, well you are responsible for if they work or not.
