Height range modifiers: How to use?

I'm a noobie to Prusa Slicer 2.0, though I have considerable experience with S3D, Cura, etc.. The idea of being able to break a print into regions and assign different characteristics to each (e.g., infill, speed, layer thickness, etc.) is appealing, and is what hight range modifiers are intended to accomplish. However, I can't figure out how to user this feature. Is there documentation available someplace I just haven't been ablke to find?

Many thanks for any help!

RE: Height range modifiers: How to use?

I'm a newbie with PS myself, but that feature seems simple enough to use. Maybe you should tell us more about what you are trying to do, and which steps you are taking?

That said, here's the simplest possible howto:

Right-clicking on the object in the browser on the right should give you a dropdown menu where you can choose to add a height range modifier. Then after doing so, you can adjust the start and stop height for that modifier (in the bottom of the objects browser), and clicking on the gear icon for the modifier (again in the objects browser) should produce a dropdown of settings you can add and then adjust. Pretty straightforward, I think.

One thing I've noticed:

There's a bug in the current release that prevents you from changing the layer height in the layer height modifier if you have your max layer height limit in the printer settings set to zero (which means auto, and should default to 75% of nozzle diameter). This will be fixed in the next version, but you can also make it work if you enter an actual value for max layer height (typically 0.3 mm for a 0.4 mm nozzle).

@mroek

Thanks! with your nudge in the right-click direction, I was able to do what I wanted to do. The GUI is confusing because the Hight Range Modifier icon on the top tool bar leads to a new display that deals with smoothing, etc (need to figure that one out, too), not to things I needed. Again, thanks!

@mroek

Thanks for the hint about the max layer height bug - that helped me today!

RE: Height range modifiers: How to use?

Is it possible to start the vase mode with the heigh range modifier only from a certain height? I've needed this feature a couple of times, but didn't get it right. I have a part that is solid but has a hole in the base. If I switch on the vase mode, the hole is filled in an entire area each time. If I could print the bottom 1.6 mm "normally" and only then activate the vase mode above 1.6 mm, the hole would be correctly contained in the base plate.
In the past, with such parts, I had to drill the hole afterwards, which only works up to a certain diameter, or the part breaks, or I had to use simplify3d. Here you can define 2 profiles for different heights and it works great with that. I would like to use the Prusaslicer to work directly with Octoprint and the latest profiles, even if the vase mode in simplify makes a better impression.

Can this be implemented with the current Prusaslicer or will the feature come in the future?

Thanks a lot!

RE: Height range modifiers: How to use?

Hello, I am printing a part in Nylon where everything works well at 0.15mm but bridging does not at a specific height. However the bridging is fine at 0.30mm, just not good for the rest of the part.

I am trying to use the Height Range Modifier to switch to 0.3mm when it gets to the bridge height and back to 0.15mm after.

The modifier just keeps defaulting to 0.15mm every time I try to make it switch to 0.3mm for those particular layers - WHY?! HELP!

Thanks in advance.
