Joan they mentioned the first layer and above supports.  While that setting may prove useful if the gap is too great further up a print for first layer issues its not the problem.   This is a issue with your first layer height.  Thats is something you tune at the printer and not in the slicer.  If you have a prusa you can adjust the live z value.  If you have something else then read up on how to correctly adjust your bed for that printer.  You need to get the nozzle closer to the bed to squish the first layer more.  There are hundreds of threads here on the prusa forum about this.  

As for the surface above supports it is normal for those, if you have a small gap then you wont be able to remove the supports from the part.  Unless you have a multi material setup and can print the support interface out of a different material.  Which it looks like you dont.
