First layer extrusion widths too small with 0.8mm nozzle and PrusaSlicer 2.5.0

I am trying to develop a good PrusaSlicer profile for a Gigabot 3+ XLT 3D printer with a 0.8mm Bondtech CHT nozzle and 2.85mm PLA filament.  I am running PrusaSlicer 2.5.0 on a Mac.  No matter what I've tried, the first layer has a really small extrusion width that is way too small for a 0.8mm nozzle.  Layers 2 though n have appropriate extrusion widths for the nozzle.  I have entered 0.96mm as my default extrusion width.  That seems to be what I am getting everywhere except layer 1.  It happens both with and without Arachne.  Any ideas?

What do you have your first layer extrusion widths set to ?

btw the best way to debug these issues is for you to save a project file from Prusa Slicer (File>Save Project As) this saves a 3mf file.  A 3mf project file comtains any models and ALL your settings.  This allows anyone to check everything, even stuff you wouldn't normally think of.

To attach to the forum though it MUST be zipped or the forum will just not attach it.

Without a project file anything is just a guess.  My guess is though that you have the first layer extrusion width set to a percentage.  What most people miss as they don't read the tool tips properly is that a percentage based width is NOT based on the nozzle but based on your layer height.  So if you have a layer height of 0.2mm and a 100% first layer width then the extrusion width will also be 0.2mm WIDE.

Thank you for solving all of my problems!  You described my extrusion width problem exactly.  My first layer extrusion width was set to a percentage and I had mis-read the tool-tip to incorrectly believe it scaled with nozzle size.  Also, I had tried to attach the .3mf file to my original forum post but did not know to zip it first.

Thanks again for all the help!

Hi Garry, did you zip the .3mf file before trying to attach it, as Neophyl advised?

the forum will only accept certain file types.   .zip is acceptable
