Hi

 

is there a filament repository where users can up/download their filament settings referencing Brand etc? I had some issues with the Balco filament (from Aldi) but after tweaking it prints well now.

Maybe somebody is interested in it?

PS I know that Prusa has its own filament but I use the Balco filament for testing and POC. Prusament is for the final print 🙂 ...

You won't find something like this on the net and very difficult for more exotic materials. Depending on the filament type you can take a preset, adjust the temperatures and make experimental adjustments.

my point exactly! So maybe Prusa can fill in this gap? Or Github? Or ...? Why does a fellow maker need to tamper with the settings in search of a working filament model if somebody else in the world has already succesfully performed this job ....

Glad that there is not yet a repository, so it my google skills are alright  😉

Prusa do include profiles for a number of filaments, but it's unreasonable to ask them to put time and money into testing lots of filament from across the world (against each of their printer models) to add support for it in a free product such as slicer. If they accept community contributions without testing them then they could become associated with poor quality settings and damage their reputation.

Of course there is nothing stopping you from starting a GitHub repository for settings and accepting contributions from people. I suspect the number of  combinations of printers, filament types and filament brands would become difficult to manage fairly quickly, and is probably the reason why there doesn't appear to be such a site at the moment.

I think it would be a huge effort to construct a setup for each type of printer and the different versions and hardware constellations. You will probably not be able to avoid taking the most suitable material-dependent basic settings and adapting them to your own needs and circumstances.
The idea is basically a good one, but it is extremely complex and expensive to implement.

Concur.  I think I am much of the community would be willing to help.  

I like a sort of setting post by one person and confirmed by another approach.

As far as I understood all you need to do is opening an issue at Prusa-Slicer-Settings on Github

And but the information / settings in there so they can be integrated. What I do not know yet is how the process exactly works, I opened a ticket for a filament I am using, but I am not ready yet to publish the settings. I did open the ticket to ask if Prusa could do that, to find out that I should do it and they would go further with the settings. ( https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer-settings/issues/104)

Anyhow, create the issue there, and we will learn how to proceed 😉

yeah, IMHO standard incoporation in the prusa slicer is not feasible ... but a repository on a website may not be that difficult (with some meta data and so). And then the next step is a Import setting in the Prusa slicer (for that one filament that you searched on, off course).

Yeah, Joseph did already amazing things ... maybe he agrees with this concept/idea or maybe he doesn't and has an even better idea :p
