Disabling Retract Between Organic Support Structures - Is it Possible?
Hey fellow enthusiasts,
I've been diving into creating some intricate organic support structures for my recent projects, and I've been encountering a bit of a snag. The constant retract between these support structures is really eating up a significant amount of time during printing. It's got me wondering, is there any way to disable the retract between these organic support structures?
I mean, when I'm dealing with these complex shapes, the retract seems to be adding more trouble than it's worth. I'm thinking that since these supports are organic in nature, the usual retract settings might not be as necessary. Maybe there's a way to tweak the settings or utilize a workaround to prevent the printer from retracting between these specific support structures?
I've scoured the settings menu of my printer and done some online research, but I haven't found a definitive solution yet. So, I'm turning to this knowledgeable community for help. Have any of you faced a similar situation or found a way to tackle this retract issue with organic support structures? Your insights and advice would be greatly appreciated!
Looking forward to your responses. Happy printing!

As far as I'm aware there is no setting to turn off retraction for specific anything. Its either on or off.
There are parameters of course like the minimum travel after retraction, retract on layer change etc but nothing relating to specific feature types. Prusa Slicer does have a search function so its easy to pull up a list of any setting with retract in the name. Have you tried only retract when crossing perimeters ?

The idea of crossing perimeters was good, but unfortunately the supports are also recognized as contours and the retract takes place. I couldn't find any other options...

I just came across this as I recently had the same idea.
I use my Prusa Mini with a 0.25 nozzle for printing minis, and am very pleased at the quality it produces, however it seems unnecessary to me for it to be constantly doing retractions non stop since most of the objects it's printing are organic supports surrounding the model, and they'll be torn off and thrown away anyways, so quality/stringing really isn't a concern.
I feel like some sort of option to enable retractions only when crossing the border of the printed object, while completely ignoring support materials, would save a lot of time and noisiness (and lengthen the life of the extruder).
Can we get any sort of attention from the dev team to see if this is a possible/reasonable feature?
It would make printing small detailed objects so much more comfortable, and would probably improve the quality by reducing the necessary retractions related to the model.

If you want dev team attention then you need to check out the PS github to see if there is an existing issue already, if not only then open a new one. This is a user to user forum and the devs don't really monitor it.
For example while not directly your request this seems related to it https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/9750 or maybe even this one from back in 2017 https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/159
