Different colour Infill

Hi, I am not sure if anyone has an answer or even if there is an answer but I am trying to find out if it is possible to use a different colour for infill as opposed to the outer shell of a print. I have a project where I have twelve identical items but I haven't enough filament to finish them all and I have found out that the filament colour is not available any more so I would like to print the  infill in a different shade to allow me to finish them. I would be over the moon if anyone could give me any pointers in to how this might be achieved. Thanks in advance, Bob.

If you have a mmu or multi extruder setup then you can assign infill to a different extruder in your print profile settings. Not at the pc at the moment but it is there as art of the print profile. Make sure you are in expert mode so you can see all the settings.

Hi, thanks for your reply but I have tried that. I have the MMU3 and I went to infill, multiple extruders and changed infill extruder to one that wasn't being used with a new shade but after slicing it didn't make any difference as it still showed the infill as the same colour as the outer shell.

Just an update, I tried your solution on a simple single coloured item with just one colour and changed the infill to extruder 2 and the colour to a different one and it worked.

My design already has 3 colours on the top face as it is a multi coloured design on the top and the rest is single coloured including the infill, so I use extruder 4 for the infill and that is when I get the problem of how to tell slicer that number 4 extruder is for the infill. I hope that makes sense.

Could you please attach your prusa slicer project to a reply here. File>Save As from PS and then take the resulting .3mf file and ZIP it up and then attach to a reply.  Must be zipped or the forum will silently reject it.

With a project file we can see all the settings and try different things.

I print it upside down as the top is the flat surface and the smooth plate gives it a much smoother top surface when it is finished.

Thanks for that.  There should be a modified version attached for you to examine.

Your problem is that the extruders you assign to specific extrusion types under Print Settings>Multiple Extruders>Extruders are only used IF the object doesn't have a specific extruder already assigned, ie is let at default.  Basically the hierarchy is that an assigned extruder overrides defaults.

If you look in the modified project all you had to do was change the extruder for the part called Body1.stl back to Default.

You will realise after awhile that multi colour slicing has all sorts of limitations with the way Prusa does it.

Hi, thanks for your reply and solution, something so simple and yet I don't think that I would have been able to sort it by myself. I now have two instances printing as I type. This is a really great forum that we have here, to think that within 30 minutes of me posting a question someone has not only taken the time to reply but has replied with an answer that works just shows that there are good people out there. Keep slicing, Bob.
