deselecting parts of a layer
I'm in the learning stage of doing manual color changes in prusa slicer and I'm wondering if it's possible to deselect parts of a layer you won't want to do a color change on.
RE: deselecting parts of a layer
Do you mean manual MMU, with multiple colors on one layer? Did you try the Multimaterial Painting Tool that appears in the toolbar after you have added at least one more extruder?
RE:
I only have 1 extruder. this is what I'm referring to.
Say I didn't want the border the same color as the parts on the bike that are the same.
The printer is going to stop when I get to that height for a filament change.
Is there a way to deselect the border or is a layer height change the only way?

I think you could do that with the manual MMU method. Look in the forum for "manual MMU". How it is done has been discussed a few times. You'll get an MMU printer with just one nozzle, but multiple virtual extruders and the material change is done the same as with manual color changes for the whole layer. You can have multiple colors on the same layer with one extruder. The printer will prompt you to change the filament the same way as with a color change on a new layer. Can get a bit tedious, but for your model it should be manageable as you would have several color changes anyway and the changes are only over a few layers of the model. You could perform one or more cuts to separate the parts that should have another color into separate objects and merge them again. They are selectable in the objects list and then you can assign the desired color to each object. I hope you can follow what I mean ... 🙂

tks. I will look in to that.

I think I'm tracking but when I get lost I'll be back. lol
