Best way to have in-model supports

I have a model that has a slot where another part gets inserted later. It is like a bridge that needs to be supported. I used smart fill in paint-on supports. The one thing is that it puts a layer on the build plate that serves no function that I can see. Is there a way to get rid of that layer?

Is there a better way of doing this type of support than what I did?

Also, what are the best settings for making the support removal as easy as possible while keeping the dimensions of the slot accurate? i.e Top/Bottom contact Z distance, etc.

Attached the model and settings bundle.

Hi,

To get rid of that first layer support that does nothing, set the 'First layer expansion' field in the 'Support material' tab to '0'.

I can't comment on the optimal settings for support removal but others may have some input for you.

Cheers,

Tim

Your support settings should be fine the way they are. Just do what Tim said and set first layer expansion to 0.

BTW, if you upload a 3mf file there's no need to include a configuration bundle as it's all included in the 3mf.

Can this also be done for SLA prints?

Thanks!
